really, why it is the ONLY way of being alive or keeping being alive?
why have we been made hungry? therfor the desire to kill. take life, appropriate the life of others (fauna and flora) so we cant stop the gnawing hunger inside us? if all that is the law of this world then because of it we will never know peaceful relations with all others lifes? what is the continual purpose of taking life to keep on living? killing other life forms in order to survive? “Rien ne se cree, rien ne se perd?Nothing is lost, nothing is created, all is transformed” Lavoisier…this whole planet is moving its laws and regulations programmed inside the proverbial hamster’s wheel…
how did we get so numb that we have no thoughts and no feelings anymore of how painful dying has been for the cow for the pig the chicken, the fish etc? just to satisfy the instinct of eating without guilts?
If there is one God thats a very Sadistic whatever…because
if we refuse to do that…the refusal to hurt others, even taking the life of a tomato (a lesser crime) leave that big machinery having again the last word.DIE…
really I dont like this predicament where I dont have the choice… either I eat and kill then survive or dont kill and die…kind of alternative…its no freedom
is being forced to kill in order to survive…
and Descartes was full of farting beans when he said that animals have no emotions and no souls and cant suffered or comprehended…
and Sartre was full Lima beans when he said man is born free…as well
there are no other alternatives than Eat or Die as there is no such things as Dont eat and Live…
someone, something is always suffering always loosing because the survival of another… this earth thrives and spins only on that mode…that is a frightful condition for all species never know who is going to kill you, eat you, only once you have decided to stop being egoistical, vain, in your incapacity to just try to put yourself in another skin would it be either furry skin, feathery, or pectine skin…
Thinking or rather not thinking just acting instinctively and keeping the guilts or remorse in Limboville…
Aaaah, and Rousseau was wrong too about man is born good the society makes him bad…thats another bowl of jellybeans…how naive?
as there is no equality in this world everybody are born with different genes, talents, capacities,to be kind or to be evil is how one will approve of it finally…
and the final conclusion is what you do with what you were born with…some people are born with 10% of hate and envy and they ended up dying with 120% of hate and envy and others are born with 80% of hate and envy and end up dying with 2% of hate and envy…and some are born with 20% of vices and die with 20% of it , others with 90% of hate and die with 99% of it…
however we look at it…I feel ashame and sad to be part of this big farce!
I hope only there are better worlds somewhere not worst…
because thats a totalitarian impositionof something somebody else will.
My nickname?Phonetically? may be, it is a play with the first syllables of 4 names that mean something to me, I belong to no religions no groups no sects, I can formulate
my own thoughts and question my own absurdity.
Compassion and empathy are submissions to anothers emotion, anothers sensation, and even those emotions and sensations are requests, demands, and domination. Self-domination, extended outward.
At the same time, this cold wicked beast has given you all reason, all thought, and all brain, whilst it will one day consume you aswel. Thusly chaos. Life is circular.
I’ve always been skeptical of the Hobbesian tendency to claim evil as part of man’s nature. Is it truly as bad as you think? One could argue that our society has grown into this competitive cycle. My thoroughly pragmatic nature leads me to discredit evil as a useful property and so this particular issue is rather illusory for me.
Why are we forced to kill or be killed? Because reality dictates that this is the case. Why does reality dictate that? Well, I don’t think anyone can really offer a good reason for that.
Damavava, there’s a simple answer to your query, which however you may not find very satisfying.
If I may rephrase what you wrote, I believe it comes down to:
“If the world of living things is designed by a compassionate God, then why is it that every living thing must destroy other living things in order to survive?”
The answer to this is that the premise is false: the world of living things is NOT designed by a compassionate God, at least not in any simplistic sense such as is usually meant by that. The mystery must be plumbed much deeper.
One can say, with truth, that the fact that the earth cannot support all the life that lives on it is a drive-spring of evolution. But that only pushes the question back one layer. If the world of living things were designed by a compassionate God, why even have evolution? Why not create life in its desired state without having it go through all these incredibly painful transitions with so many false starts and mass extinctions?
Very simply, you have made an observation which is incompatible with the concept of God that a lot of believers hold.
Ah, the angst of being at the top of the food chain.
Anyhow, biologically speaking the topic question is a fair one, considering how our distant relatives, the plants, generally don’t have to kill to survive, ie. they live on non-organic sources of energy (sunlight, water, CO2). I guess the answer is that we, as animals, developed the ability to move around, which required more energy. And other living things turned out to be a rich source of energy, so we consume them to satisfy our high metabolism.
…Pity is submission to another as in “another” that is seperate not a part of you.
…Compassion is not feeling for that being “over there”. It is for when you know we are all one.
…Kill and live or don’t and die…Science will end the angst.
…Some day we will be able to produce nourishment out of thin air. And again evil is a product from us untill we figure it out.
…But remember we are not this group of molecules that are doomed to forever an existence of recycling over and over and over.
Actually, even that isn’t true. Plants don’t need to eat other organisms (except ones that are already dead), but there is a deadly competition in the plant world for soil, water, and sunlight. A great tree got that way by shading out and killing all its nearby rivals.
The competition for resources is of course different from killing your fellow living things directly (by munching on them), and the latter is what the original poster was feeling guilty about, apparently.
...Everything is resonance in a way. Resonance is a product of electrons racing around and around. Electrons bond in different quantities and qualities.
…All this vibration is reponsible for this phantasm. The vibration is sustained and "life"is sustained. Or should I say the ego lives; because we never never die.
…But electrons move on and reattach to form other compounds. And the phantasm must replenish. So the phantasm consumes elements, minerals, proteins, sun light, etc.to sustain the illusion.
aaaaaw this thought of killing…my painful feeling isnt guilt, well if it is, it only plays a miniscule part in my suffering, in accepting this “Do or Die” kind
of law .(because I feel for every living things and I relate too with the wheat that has grown in a field…as for me movement when it is swept by the wind, when it basks under the sun in the summer…it is life…though reaping its life from the earth is probably way much less painful, than slaughtering an animal mostly because it is nearing its expiration date on this planet and bloodless …
However how many of us if we would have to do the killing, the slaughter
how many of us could do it?
because meat once butchered doesnt look like the animal it comes from,
so we eat lamb chops, New York steaks,
even the chicken without its feathers and in the strange position it is cooked has very small ressemblance with the formal bird…
so we eat this deception in a numb state (well I can only talk about myself and on the past tense). I shiver thinking of how many animals face the most odious and
sadistic kind of death here on earth… when the blade hit them and how many thrusts will it take?..
…I can appreciate your love for all our brothers.
…The slaughter of animals is unnecessary, but also the killing of our real brothers through war and indifference.
…The trait of spirituality is love. A trait of egocentricty is dominance and control. And many minds are lost in matter and live in fear. A connection with love as the intent for existence is contrary to ego and its desires. Ego causes a sense of seperateness. Connectedness is at the Great Spirit.
…Self righteousness and judmentalism are love antithesis. We all must extent love to beings whose life is taken in order for humans to live.Tests and killing is performed in laboratories. Herbecides, insecticides Garments and the homes we live in are an the expense of life.
Just become a vegetarian or a vegan if it bothers you. I am sure there are foods out there that are made purely from chemicals. Just find out what they are and only eat them. I am not sure you will live long, but hey, at least you won’t be hurting any living thing. Ohhh and try not to walk, breath or engage in any kinda of behavior whatsoever since bacteria is dying by the millions or billions all around us.
If there is to be pleasure there must be pain, if there is to be life there must be death.
There is balance in all things, i’d prefer it if it wasn’t true but there is as much pain in the world as there is pleasure and pretty much always will be.
I am sure you meant well however I wonder why after reading your post
I felt bullied? LOL!
I am already a vegan, however my question had more an universal
tone to it…why are we compulsed to take the life of an other living beings?
Is it a sadistic law from this “big machinery” that our planet is submitted to obey?..because my" horror" doesnt stop at mankind…all over the “nature” the same cycle is going on…I shuddered to watch on tv zebras getting eaten by lions…
even if I turn off my tv or change channel it doesnt stop the killing …
it is a force that is dictated and transmitted to all of us through our genes
it is relentlessly at work… despite myself, yourself, everybody, that I sobbed against it or that I encouraged it…
I am telling ya, I bet scientists have made some edible goup made purely out of chemicals. I am sure you can sustain yourself on it without having to eat anything that was once alive.
