I’ve been glancing through alot of the topics and in almost everyone of them there is some little comment on the evils of America, or how to overthrow the US and some kind of obscene comment about President Bush. So all I am asking is why you people have such an unconditional feeling of hatred toward the United States of America. Please let me know.[/b]
Look in the Bush!!! thread for my reasons… or at least the tip of the iceberg so to speak.
Why wouldn’t you hate a president to will sacrifice lives… only to gain a trump card for war?
Well, your references aren’t very specific, so I’ll offer a general observation. As in any culture, there is a lot to not like. Couple that with being the 700 lb gorilla, and you have the makings of a lot of hate. That, and by hating us, they can ignore their own faults…
JT
Laughable… .the only thing that outweights my distain for the US… is my pity for the citizens.
I have faults… but I don’t hate on the US because of them, Bush (and some of the others) provoke my anger all on his/their own.
Any culture has pros and cons… but we’re not talking about a culture persay here… we’re talking about some evil leaders.
I truly don’t get why people are so baffled by the overwhelming, unrelenting hate and anger projected at the US gov’t… I really am, don’t you guys look into what’s going on behind the scenes? granted I wish I hadn’t read some of the things I have… but the truth is out there if you want to find it.
You want a good reason to dislike the US… YOU DON’T HAVE A HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. Like… that is savage, and unacceptable.
Actually I work in said healthcare system. Now, before I get flamed into oblivion, let me finish.
I do not agree with the way that the healthcare system in America works. But it is there. We do not have a public/govt sponsored/socialistic healthcare system per se, but it does exist.
Now, I will also expand on something of the healthcare system in America which does say something about Americans. A great deal of the people I deal with DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE. They know nothing about their benefits, how their insurance works and are completely lost. This I can live with. It’s not the easiest thing to untangle. However, they do not ask for help, and they believe that they have benefits they do not, and will treat these non-existent benefits like some cling to the beliefs of religion.
I have health insurance, and so I learned what hospitals I can go to, which is like all of them in my area, which doctors I can see, which is a lot, and how much I’ll have to pay for stuff. Many of the people I deal with are lazy. They don’t want to bother with stuff like reading or a phone call to find out something about a SURGERY their having. They just go and assume that everything will be okay, because they believe it should be.
Yes its more work than say Canada’s system, but it also allows people to get a variety of options and pay a lot less in some cases than they would from a country who automatically takes deductions for it. The control here is an option. Again, I’m not saying its the best or that its better than a socialistic system, but it is a system, and it does work. If you just try a little.
P.S. I do like America but I will complain about it. Because in America if you get enough people complaining about the same thing, you might get it changed. Good stuff.
Yeah… it is there, and that’s more than we can say for alot of countries… but with the US being what it is… there is no reason billions should be spent a day on a war… while the quality of life diminishes… and the healthcare system continues to get privately tangled more and more.
You know? You’ll have your dollar gas… but water and insulin will be some astronomical price.
I guess I’m focusing on the negative… but that is the point of this thread
We don’t hate the US, hon… we love it; Some of us are just a little concerned with the ninny and his cohorts who are running it.
Bessy,
I have heard what you have just said about “the president” for the whole of my natural life. It seems like a boring mantra.
Behind the mantra there lies a greater explanation (not that I exactly know what it is, but have some clues).
Man, I ain’t seen dollar gas since I was 16. Guess how old that makes me! C’mon guess!
But, seriously, I understand your point. The sheer business of it all does suck, but then again there are some reasons for it. The amount of research that we put into new drugs and whatnot has to be made up somewhere. It’s still unfortunate, but at the current rate of pharmaceutical investigation costs, there’s no way around it. in our current system.
Thankfully, insulin isn’t as bad as it has been at some points, relatively speaking, and doesn’t seem to be climbing. But, oh man, if you’ve got cancer, or any other very serious illness or condition, the drugs to keep you going/help fix you can be astronomical. And as a side note, a lot of patients I talk to do get their rx’s from Canada .
But, the current leadership of America is not what is could be, but the way things are set up right now, I don’t think either of the two main political bodies have a great idea of where we need to be now. I think we play big brother to the world too much, but then again, you need to help out some other countries sometimes. It’s a hard line to take sometimes. But, I don’t really want to get another war thread going.
I’ve looked into it (at least for Bush… I still need to research the US Presidential history a bit more… I’m not in poli-sci) and it’s some pretty evil shit. There is a logic there… but it’s this disconnected, evil twist on machiavellie bullshit that it makes my stomach turn.
The Bush family among other things… is actually quite fascinating.
I have just few words to say…
USA is just young nation, 230 years old, I don’t trust in the ‘real american’, cause everybody are europian, african etc citizens. USA is trying to control the Earth, they have a hand in every war and they are trying to confuse the relationships between european, asian, african countries. And… I don’t approve their politics at all - everything seems like fake…
I don’t want discussion on it, that’s just my opinion, no matter what you think.
I’m only guessing of course, but I believe the official line is that the U.S. is hated because others are envious of its freedoms and wealth.
Com’n Satyr… you live in Canada… do you think those of us who despise the US are envious of their money? They can keep it… and we’ll keep our way of life.
I know you can argue that indirectly… their wealth is our wealth, but even so… it doesn’t cut it.
They have wealth… but their freedoms are being shaved off daily like a pizza guy to a donair meat stick
I hate the US pres/gov, but I’m saddened by the people there.
But we do have a healthcare system. What you mean to say is that we haven’t (yet) begun to confiscate the hard-earned money of some individuals for the purpose of forcing them to pay for other individuals’ healthcare on a level large enough to satisfy you that we’re not “savage.” We’re getting there, though. As you note: “They have wealth… but their freedoms are being shaved off daily…”
This is a bit oblique, but I liked it, so take it for what it’s worth…
[an editorial speaking to the presidency]
“As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
- H.L. Mencken, in the Baltimore Sun, July 26, 1920

If my fellow board member wouldn’t mind me stealing his signature for this thread…
“Why do they hate us?–It’s the injustice, stupid.”
Though as Satyr already said, the government-sanctioned line of thought is “They hate us for our freedoms”.
Mencken can be so insightful sometimes. This is the truth in America right now. Whether you like Bush or not, we all must confess that he is not the brightest spoon in the drawer (or to use a friend’s most eloquent term, He’s not the sharpest toolshed ) . And I don’t see this pattern stopping.
As a country we will never decide what we really want for the whole country. The choices are there, but getting any kind of concensus is too difficult. Therefore, we want someone we can look to to make that decision, but then not feel bad for criticizing them when they do it. Because as they have inherent flaws as most people do, we expect them to not. Ah, the beautiful irony.
A 60’s hippie mantra: “You get the government you deserve.”

So our leaders reflect our collective consciousness?
Indeed.

Positive things about Bush:
1)Bush is hot in an aging frat-boy kind of way.
2)He’d be fun at a party.
3)He plays a decent game of golf.
4)He looks great in a cowboy hat.
- He has a nice ass.
