Is it to be master of oneself, and the end of studying is when one has master oneself and liberated himself with all his desires.
Or can it be death is the end of studying.
“What is being and non-being” ? said Aristotle, final words. Yet, Aristotle kept on questioning in his deathbed.
Then in your claim, studying is a torture or a slave or a certain pleasure.
It is like reading a novel over and over again, when you already possess what it is all about. And the end of studying is death.
I think that in the future study will just be about trying to keep up with the information that you are expected to know to fulfill your role. Maybe we will be looking at a world where you do your best to know as much as would be useful to you whilst at the same time you employ selection techniques to try and shield yourself from information overload.
Study should be about being well-equipped when you venture out into the world. That’s why sometimes the knowledge you accumulate whilst studying at institutions can seem irrevelevant when compared to your actual experiences of what a role entails. I think study by itself is a poor way of learning up for a profession. Apprenticeships: choosing mentors you would like to learn from would work better.
If this is true then the Ph-d people are really suffering, because they don’t know what is good for them, and what is well equipped for the real world.
For if they do, they will stop chasing after degree after degree, thus , it is fear of security, and the greed of making more money, which it is all a fantasy or a big waste in part of that individual life.
that would only be true if you are a business man, not a human being itself.
So far I think you claim that study is to keep up with the modern world, up to date, as the world changes our knowledge changes. The end of studying would be if the world stop changing. If this is true then, nothing is real and true.
I think you see studying from the point of view of a school student. What xander is trying to say is that if you wake up every morning and become a sponge to your environment - you never stop the quest and desire to learn something new. Do you remember when I suggested your staying here to improve your writing skills? Well, I had a lot of laughter on that one. Guess what? One of the reasons why I stay here is because of the articulate nature of many of the posters and I learn new ways of saying things and pick up some new $5.00 words that I can use. Be a student of life, not one to drag your ass through school just for the sake of making a buck in the end.
Some of the happiest people I know are those who may have ordinary jobs to the outsider, but are fulfilled from within because they have chosen to grow and enrich their lives with learning. The PhD you mentioned may not make a lot of money to an outsider, but may be completely fulfilled in his life. When was success ever measured in our bank account? Why does the rich man carry so much power when the honorable and decent man fades? Our society needs a wakeup call!
Read, learn, grow, play an instrument, paint, plant a garden, play with your children, take a walk with a good friend, move out of your comfort zone and try something new every year - and trust me… ultimately, your fulfillment in life will never be found at the local mall.
It would seem to me studying is a way of either decieving yourself or knowing how to decieve others ,for the sake of security and social class.
Then I suppose the ends of studying is when one has liberated the needs of security or money because he has master his finace problems.
Then I suppose you are claiming studying is a way to learn something to get away from boredom. And the end of studying would be death?
I don’t somewhat comprehend the whole meaning, but i do understand something that I cannot touch upon. Perhaps my lack of vocabulary vortex. But it does sounds to me that Universites or studying is still about money. People major in things for money making employment and high employment rates. However, everyone has been thinking of how to be an employee never came upon thinking how to be employers. Plus, most of the students I see are not very serious about their future , until they reach to the point of graduation. I don’t know what to claim about this response.
Mmm… study… I’ll be quick, as I have to go and finish my Kant for the third time, he, he:
Ignorant, careless people, as well as carriers of vain, inanimate knowledge are like a dark room, with an entrance and an exit. New ideas enter one door, stay a while, and then glide in the darkness towards the exit and gone they are, indifferent, alone, equanimous… The head of a studious, talented man, however, is like a lit up room, with walls and mirrors. New ideas enter, cold and unsolicitous, 'tis true - oh, but what company they find !..
Then you claim that studying is stupid and it is a waste of time, and the things that students do are stupid. Like children these days,
why study when we can play, why pay tution while we can go to work.
This I agree. Then studying is when one is serious about studying and understands. Like if one have the fear of failing a grade or test, they put themselve in a serious mode, depending how much time they put in they learn what they can. I suppose the end of studying when they don’t put themselve in a serious mode anymore.
New ideas ? Let’s see… Space and time are a prioric categories of our sensibility ? Hmmm… I think I’ve heard that before, though… Back to the drawing board, I guess.
