We are not looking for the same thing and not in the same places. If you’re like a race car flying 300mph round the race track, without ever veering off the course, then I think I’ll just go hike through the nearby woods.
Have you tested that conviction in real life?
Don’t confuse appearances with reality. A man may ‘act’ cool and composed under stressful situations (because it may be his job), but it doesn’t mean he is not affected. In my opinion, only a psychopath can do what you describe.
I already achieved more than I could’ve ever imagined. But all risks have potential costs, and costs as well as rewards can be mis/underestimated. In a game of life, life makes the rules, so no matter how confident you are in your abilities, life will find a way to teach you a lesson in humility. You are not omni anything.
You have a very high self-esteem, I’ll give you that, maybe even on the borderline of vanity. I won’t take it away from you, but you should test it against life, first.
See, this is what happens when you speed around the track too fast. You lose perspective of what is moving and what is not.
Logic can be contradictory too. If algebraic logic can capture everything then why don’t we leave philosophy up to computers? It will be your ultimate ‘philosopher’.
I’m a spaceship flying 300000mph through space, with no change in direction, and no looking backward. I want to get as far away as humanity, and earth, as possible. I want to leave everything behind. I know all there is to know about this world. And this human world is empty, superifical, void, meaningless, purposeless, full of shit. I need and crave value. And I will find this elsewhere in the universe. Humans are nothing.
You go get lost in the forest. I’ve already been there, and everywhere on earth. You cannot get lost in familiarity.
Yes, I read everybody’s fear. People look up to me, respect me, to lead them, and to remain fearless when others lose their composure. I am obligated to keep my composure at all times. Because I am responsible for everybody around me. People depend on me. Because people need and demand fearlessness.
A genius accepts fear for what it is, allows it to consume him and overflow. This is how I can do, and can think, what none else can. I embrace my fear, and it feeds me, helps me to become stronger. Because fear exposes my own weaknesses, as well as the weaknesses of others. Fear is emotional weakness. I accept weakness and strength, both. Every individual person has different emotional strengths and weaknesses. If a person is well rounded, and strong, as I am, then this person can compensate for those weaknesses, hide them or demonstrate them. Either way, a goal must be achieved.
This is how the philosopher mind can “overcome” death. It is not the absence of fear, or the ignorance of death, but the acceptance of death, and the purpose of life. Humans live to fulfill goals. If you have no goals, then you have no purpose to live. You are an object to be used and manipulated, by people with purpose. And purpose is fought for, sought after, and hard won.
You obviously do not think about such things, Pandora. So I guess where you stand on this. You are just waiting around, wandering around in the woods. This is where I come and hold your hand, and show you what’s what, and teach you about life. Because you, like Blurrly, absolutely refuse to do all this hard work yourselves. What is your excuse? Pandora: "I don’t have enough time! I have more important things to do!" Do you, really? No, you don’t. You are stuck on your vanity. What’s so damn important in THE life? You think your life is better than everybody else’s?
Philosophy requires an obligation, to thinking. You must think, and this requires spending time. You have to think things through. I sacrifice enormous amounts of time, unlike you. And it shows, here. This is why my thoughts, words, ideas, flow so fluidly. What about yours? Lazy, sluggish, haphazardly formed. You’re out of practice. You’re just a beginner.
Maybe you’re learn what I can do firsthand, someday. Then you’ll see the truth. I can do impossible things. I already have achieved impossible things.
As if I haven’t? As if I act on a foundation of ignorance instead of wisdom? Don’t be a hypocrite.
When you travel faster than anybody has ever gone before, you see a reality that nobody else is privy to.
You should see the universe through my eyes.
When I retire from work someday, I plan to create some computer programs which philosophize better than most humans and pseudo philosophers. It won’t be hard to do. Right now, I’m confident that if I programmed a script, that it could out-think most people online, throughout the world, and out think the majority of thinkers on this forum. It wouldn’t be too difficult. Robots will become smarter than humans, faster than people realize.
My words travel through you and over you. I want to fill every neuron and synapse of your brain with echos of my reason. You deserve a masterful philosophy inside your brain.
Philosophy is very near to poetry, you know. Philosophy is a rational, logical poetry. That is reason.
You’re like a whirling dervish, spinning everything away in your head. For you, I would suggest that you slow down. Waay down. Full stop.
You won’t be able to run away from your self. You cannot run away from life. Be it a race track or space galaxies, or distant planets, your final destination will still be your starting position. If you s-l-o-w d-o-w-n and pay attention, you will notice more things that will be new to you. You will notice good things, too, and things that will surprise you. How long can you stay still without thinking, anyway? Just listening and watching?
May I suggest that you get a hobby that will help you cultivate patience? Maybe you could learn some system of martial arts. Perhaps ornithology? Hunting? The mind is not always linear in its workings, and not all knowledge is derived from deductive logic. (to think so is to underestimate the abilities of your own mind while still being under influence of its workings).
I already meditate. I can meditate for hours, or endlessly, as long as I need in order to orientate my thoughts, baring, and direction in life. My internal compass leads to uncharted, unexplored areas of human knowledge and wisdom. Do you know what holds the average philosopher wannabe back? Cowardice. Most morons don’t want to enter into the areas of their own weaknesses and fears. Because it is in that space, and within you Pandora, that you become blind in a way that surpasses all sensuality.
People are blind intellectually, mentally. And it is within this area that a mind like mine, can complete usurp any established, or all natural orders. This is intervention and artificiality. Existence is man’s domain to manipulate, control, and change according to the highest willpower.
I’ll repeat it again, my words flow through you, and over you. You are no match for me. So your excuses fall upon deaf ears. Why do you refuse to philosophize? It’s because you lack the willpower.
You ignorantly believe that you don’t need wisdom, when hypocritically, you cling to reasons, beliefs, and ideologies that you’re clearly unaware of.
I’m still waiting, people. What’s taking you so long? 2000 years wasn’t long enough? When are you going to start philosophizing? I’ve done my part, now it’s your turn.
Provide something. What can you teach? What can you prove? What can you even say about life? Can you even ask a question? Can you even answer a question?
Why this endless emptiness and silence, isn’t it a reflection of your soul and inner nature? Why do you wait around for somebody like me to do all the work?
Where is your great philosophy? Where is your reasoning, your rationale? Where is your purpose and meaning in life? Show me, I want to see it completely. What are you waiting for? Use this forum for its purpose, quit wasting both our time. Why are waiting for me to lead you???
Prove to me what you’re all about. Have you no passion in life? Have you no power nor force? Where are your words? Why do you keep them locked up inside your head, as if, they’re original? Are they, though? What do you call your own, what do you claim, possess?
Anything? Lay all your thoughts out on the table. I already laid down mine, your turn. Quit folding, show.
There is such a thing as having heard it all 1000 times. I mean, philosophy might be new and exciting to you, but it’s just the same old set of history books. I’m not trying to be a bubble buster here, but for all intents and purposes, philosophy is something that can be learned, and then of course…known…and then at a certain point, you just stop staring at the stars in wonder and live your life. Anyone who thinks that debating basic philosophical distinctions like good and evil, or like one and many, or relative and absolute just doesn’t understand what they’re doing. That shit is dumb. The only reason you should even think about those things is if you haven’t before. Then think em through and move on with life. You can’t prove where the universe started or ends, and you can’t know what will happen tomorrow, or for sure what happened yesterday. Give up all the high and mighty wannabe philosopher talk and start reasoning your way, effectively, into those things that you desire.
No room for innovation, creation, and change, in your book? I like this excuse, it’s different than Blurry’s excuse of “I’m above philosophy in a public format” or Pandora’s “I don’t have time for it.”
Anymore excuses, people? Here’s another excuse, “I don’t want to, philosophy is too hard!”
What do you consider “doing” philosophy to entail?
Is it necessary that we recite arguments that college sophomores write papers about? Do you think there’s some advancement to be made on the problem of first cause? Or free will? Or do you think there’s a way around things like the uncertainty principle? Do you believe that it is possible to innovate somehow on the social problems that seem to plague humanity? Do you expect to make some great insight into human psychology by regurgitating things that have been written down over and over again forever?
I mean help me out here. I’m really not sure what you’re trying to do here.
There are other factors, but these are primary to philosophize, and comprise the action of philosophizing.
No, a bum or beggar can be a better philosopher than academic sophists.
I know there’s advancement to be made.
Absolutely
Yes, but the best answers to social problems are almost never politically correct.
I’ve provided some unique, new, original insights into psychology in one of my threads. But people don’t pay attention to it. Because they’re busy doing other things. Philosophy is the last thing on their minds. That shouldn’t be the case with people here, but, it is. Even here, people are refusing to philosophize.
I’m collecting excuses for why people don’t philosophize, and also, if possible, push people and force them to philosophize, even if they don’t want to. I want to push people to their limits, and even beyond their limits. I want to suck all the philosophy out of their heads and brains. I know that people are holding back, like Moreno. He has a lot of philosophy inside his head, but he’s not giving it up. I want it. I want that knowledge. I want to get it out of him. I want to see what he’s capable of, and others too, like Pandora and Blurry. I want everybody to show what they have, at their best.
Because it’s not fair for one person to do all the philosophy work. For example, a few great names pop up when you think of philosophy, why only a few? Let’s add a lot more names. Why not pull another worthy name out of the rabble, if there’s one hiding in here somewhere? Thinkers like Moreno, you can just feel it, he’s holding back on a lot of great stuff. But sometimes you need to sear their hind with a cattle prod. That’s what needs to happen to you too. You’re holding back.
insighfoul, the reason you’re not inspiring anyone to pour their head and heart out to you is your approach.
You’re a snob, and most people don’t respond well to snobs. If you are being honest here (something tells me you’re not, but let’s just play along for now) and you really want to encourage other people to share their thoughts and philosophies with you, spending so much time talking about how wonderful you think you are and how everyone else’s mind is broken really isn’t the way to go. Maybe spend some time going through that first-year Interpersonal Communications book again.
By the way, you should let other people tell you how amazing you are instead of you telling them. It tends to carry more weight that way.
Also, I did mean it when I said something tells me you’re not being honest with us. You might try being a bit less obvious, I smelled you as soon as I read your OP. You reek of ulterior motive.
I admit my snobbery, but is it unjustified? Furthermore, don’t I have the ability to change? Cannot I be humiliated? Am I not already, isn’t that wisdom and philosophy, except to stand before the universe, and absolute existence, and accept the nature of our ignorance?
Go on and humiliate me then, maybe I need a spanking.
My only motive is TRUTH, and then philosophy, wisdom, reason, maybe in that order.
If I have ulterior motives, then they are no different than yours in coming here, no different than anybody else’s. As if the nature of our honesty were different? As if any person in history can speak 100% pure truth, and what would that entail of course?
That’s your opinion. I probably can convince you of advancement of free will or determinism.
Evolutionary theory, for example, is a great advance of determinist philosophy, is it not? The 20th century was dominated by determinist philosophies and ideologies. The free will arguments have yet to retort to them. But they are still out there, hiding, among religion namely. People want to believe in free will, want to believe in freedom. Isn’t that what the united states is built on, for example, a necessary and required belief in freedom? I’m aware this is an oxymoron, but, valuing freedom is reasonable.
It is easy enough for people to assert that they value freedom. In fact, that’s the core of liberalism, as well as all the junk and rot that comes with it.
For example, “free expression” leads to people pissing in a jar, and calling that fine art, as well as gay pride parades. Viva freedom?
Dude information is finite. If you’ve been through all of it on a given subject, then you know what the problems are of that subject and why they can’t be gotten around. There’s nothing new or interesting about evolutionary biology, and there’s nothing in it that can resolve a problem in philosophy. Maybe you’re just in a state of wonder because you’re going through a bunch of “aha” moments, but to assume that any of what you could possibly say would be anything other than a regurgitation of something I’ve already read is to not give your audience the credit it deserves. I remember years ago when I was sitting around with a bunch of other kids who didn’t know how the world worked. We all thought we were in some noble pursuit of truth. Give me a break man. If you consider yourself to understand philosophy and you’re still thinking that you can solve free will/determinism, one over many, or first cause or any of em really, then you really don’t understand philosophy as well as you think you do.
Just because newness, creativity, ingenuity, imagination, originality is impossible for you, doesn’t mean your limitations apply to everybody else. Now I see why you refuse to philosophize, because you believe it’s impossible to create something anew. Your problem is that you haven’t actually investigated historical philosophy, and where the roots of these ideas came from. If you really had an extensive knowledge of philosophical history, then I’m certain your mind would be changed.
Ideas have traditions. That doesn’t mean they have no origin, no seeds, no branches. They do, but you just don’t want to dig deep enough to see that. Your excuse is not digging deep enough, not going far enough into philosophy. Your recoil from philosophy manifests in your frustrations, in your lack of originality. You completely miss the aspect of philosophy that is free, is creative, is imaginative, is new.
You’ve limited yourself, maybe you only want so much out of philosophy, enough to get by in some small aspect of your life. But you don’t seem to apply philosophy to your whole life, and I think that’s the point. Philosophy is supposed to be undifferentiated from living and life. Your beliefs ought to match your actions in essence.
The reason people are reluctant to engage in philosophical thought and discourse, is because they fear the process which may lead them to unexpected ideas which may threaten their long held beliefs.
For instance the concept that the ideas which seem the most abstract and ambiguous are basically ones which turn out to be simple to arrive at, and negatively, those that appear as simple but turn lout to be complex has been echoed before.
A few simple concepts entail the Large scope and breath of all the philosophical literature out there, and it seems as if extreme generalizations into the universals of belief becomes a very daunting endeavor.
If one were to inquire as to the most basic premise upon which philosophy rests, the idea of the subject and it's object, may be it. How do I relate to the world? What do such relationships signify, and what is my significance in it? That may have been the starting point of departure, and the purposive attainment of it"s goal.
That reLating is based in fear or trust, has been the background noise, which has sometimes blurred the distinction with the foreground, resulting in either the acceptance of one and the denial of the other.
Insightfoul, im giving you an F in reading comprehension. You may think that you can think and reason your way to the impossible, but its just because you dont really understand how shit is. If you think you can solve the problems of philosophy its because you dont understand them. Everything isnt an opinion, and discourse is only entertaining the first 300 or 400 times you go through it all. Maybe you should keep going through it. But i already have over and over again. I have no need to study anymore philosophy. I already know it all.
