Why has Einstein become such an icon?

It seems to me that outside of physics Einstein shows little insight into society or human nature. Inside the field of physics of course he was brilliant and creative, but even there in 1946 he published with Infeld the Unified Field Theory which was a bust.

I don’t get it. But obviously its true that he has become a super icon

You are kidding, right? It’s the hair. The man had brilliant hair. That’s why he gets all the posters. He looks like what we expect a scientist to look like. He re-enforces the stereotype.

What a fun answer! I thought someone would attack my premise or at least say that if you have hit the longest home run in 500 years you win.
