Why is it that the greatest evils are caused mostly by men?

zeno what if aliens showed up, killed all of europe and then moved over to america. we kill all of them because we know that they will kill us. then more ships show up in orbit. we nuke all of them.

turns out wave 2 of the attack was the real fleet, coming to apologize for the awful actions of the first and to offer a wonderful plan for peace and prosperity.

awesome helpful aliens still died, humans were less happy than they could have been as a direct result. if it turns out the nuke launcher knew very well that the aliens were nice and not warlike and he just wanted to maintain his death grip on the land, then hes evil. if he knew that jews would destroy the world, he wasnt.

Until they seat him in the electric chair and flip the switch, eh? The discussion, then, does have a point, but only in Hitler’s mind because he and not you is about to fry.

Then what is justifiable is what the jury thinks is right?

Because four million people believed Hitler does not make him right. In the same sense, because the rest of the world doesn’t believe him does not make him wrong.

His actions cannot be defined that way. Well they can, but more so in a very practical and unphilosophical way. Which, by the way, is how the world normally operates, yet when it comes time to justify an action rather than simply explaining it, everyone suddenly becomes philosophical.

my first post…
Going back to the original question of why the greatest evils are caused mostly by men? could be a simple matter of history.
Going back a few thosand years Women used to be the most important sex in the tribe; as they were the ones who brought life into the world. Mens importance was seen as only being part of the “process”. However, as the importance for land, food etc drove tribes to war, the men became more important in the role of fighting and hunting. The womens “role” then purly became that of giving birth which is why up until very recently the role of men has been always seen as the “stronger sex”. Thus why all important figures (not just evil) tend to be men as men have the chance to achieve that status. Think of any historical figure and compare the ammound of men to women and you will see that the majority will be men.

Obviously there are differences between men and women to satisfy these roles. E.g. men tend to be stronger etc.

Unfortunatly, we still live in this state of mind, Women still get payed less then men, Women have “more of a right” to keep their children after marrige problems.

Probably could rant on for longer but I will see how people respond to my reply first.

thanks

Nice thoughts, Dave. I can agree that woman may, in fact, have actually held (in general) more power or control to days of old.

However, there really was not a point in history when “Matriarch-cal” tribes/people-groups ever were super dominate…but, then again, I may be incorrect in saying that.

The man, from a biological standpoint, is more likely to “desire” to go kill something in order to eat than a women would be. Men seek dominion in just about any fashion that they can obtain it. Men are more bold, daring, brave, and aggressive (as well as being less “emotional”). Women are more emotionate (or at least, more expressive in emotions), less aggressive, and have better dexerity(sp?) then men do.

While I’m not trying to say that I feel that the man’s inherent attributes automatically give him some form(s) of instant-superiority over women (and at times, over many other men/women), I think male’s attributes are more essential to the basic “survival”.

And, “survival” was a very important " full-time task" in the past for human beings. It seems; therefore, that it is only logical that males, in general, will be more likely to do the great good and the greatest evil than the women.

Just my two cents…

hitler was never judged by any court… well unless he counts as one.

the guy shot himself, thus rendering your point somewhat limp, especially if we say he must have done it for a reason.

Okay what exactly are you trying to say here? are you saying that unless judged buy our laws that an action can’t be deamed evil ? Cause uhhm…no… just no

No shit, Sherlock.

You missed my point entirely. Nevermind.

i was just saying that he didnt die in an electric chair as detrop seemed to suggest. and i wont be much bothered to listen to what people have to say about history that dont know the facts at least that much. thats all.
