IF you submit a poem to a site, most often they will sent you in the mail or something like of a form, saying we have recieve your poem, and we think it is great, please buy the book where your poem will be in it.
Any ideas.
Since rainey can pose a question , I suppose this thread is not all about writings after all.
I have recieve this type of offer three times from three different books.
your poem will be in the book, as the mail said. so if you want yoru poem in the book, then buy the book and your poem will be in there. thast that the mail said then thats what will happen.
That’s because those are common scams. That’s how they make money, publishing every poem that is sent them and then getting people to buy thier “one in a lifetime beautiful hardbound…” book. Poetry.com is one of the big scam sites on the net, but I’ve read of others.
Any real publisher, will not ask you to pay anything, in fact, if they’re worth their salt, they’ll pay you. There are, however, some exceptions, like entry fees to some poetry contests, Poets & Writers magazine for example, sometimes runs contests where small entry fees (like 10 dollars) are required. The only fail-safe way to know what contests are legit and which arn’t, which magazines, e-zines, and other publications are legit and which arn’t, is to get a copy of Poet’s Market either from the library or buy one – and send your poems to the publications you wish to see them published in.
It’s generally a good idea, so I keep reading, to buy the lit magazine you send your poems out to - to see the type of work that is in them - saving both you and publisher time and aggravation.
better idea. My writing teacher told me such magazines are like Vanity Fair. Where poems and short stories are sent as contests. So you must win first.
