Why should one be generous?

Is it better to be generous? Why or why not?

It’s best to be generous with the right people and the right things, if the people and the things are wrong, then those times it’s wrong.

Smears said it very well.

suppose generosity were a virtue

like every virtue, then, it tends toward stupidity, and every stupidity toward virtue

where o where is that fine line to be drawn?

:banana-dance:

who needs to be virtuous when the government is there to force your virtuous nature? wealth redistribution et.al…

-Imp

surely the government defines and prescribes every possible virtue

exactly…

(and quit calling me shirley)

I wouldn’t want to live anywhere near you if you really believe that.

What is it darling, don’t you want people to know about you and me? Puh ! [-(

Have you never seen airplane?

Ah, no. I’m afraid I’m quite barbaric when it comes to knowledge of popular culture. :stuck_out_tongue:

Airplane is hilarious. It’s a particular kind of humour that the Americans probably do better than anyone else.

Yes, but, it is the child of British dry humor and wit. Bitish humor gave us alot.

Monty Python humor hands down beats Airplane humor even though both are hilarious.

Oh yeah, that Monty Python. Who else could do a ten minute routine in a cheese shop that has only one kind of cheese? I must admit that I didn’t know the joke until the second (of about three hundred) requests for a particular variety of cheese. Only Monty Python can make you want to stab yourself in the forehead with a screwdriver while weakly smiling.

Who else thinks the mere word “shrubbery” is funny?

Oh, and the guy who pays for complaints and mistakenly gets verbal abuse? A laugh riot. Never see that stuff coming.

And now the Larch,

Yeah, my sides are splitting. Could be that screwdriver.

How I’ve missed Faust’s diatribes against anything daring to find Monty Python funny…

I tried. I watched. Many times.

The laugh tracks don’t even match. Even the post-production people didn’t get it.

I know you have my friend, I know you have. And I have no problem with you disliking Python.

Do you like Fawlty Towers? And what do you make of Ricky Gervais? I’m just curious, I have a lot of passion for my country’s comic traditions, though I’ve learnt not to take offence when jonny foreigners beg to differ.

Fawlty Towers - no. I may have brought this up before, The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin - Leonard Rossiter. Very funny guy. That and Keeping up Appearances. That chick. And anything by Sacha Cohen.

That’s the whole list of funny Brits.

But Cohen is one of the funniest guys in the world.

I’ve seen Rossiter in other things, and he’s always funny.

Can’t think of anyone else.

Not sure who Gervais is. have heard of him. I’ll google it up.

People should be generous because people want other people to be generous to them…

If you wanted to be not generous then you should not expect to recieve generosity from others…
