Excellent Dan~
(Icke’s a bit far out but there’s enough info there to make the video very interesting.)
Dan~ I have had time only to view your first link. Thanks for posting it. I knew this stuff, because I am old. I would like to point out that few citizens are very upset about the tactics described here. At least that I know of. That they should be is another matter, I suppose. I, for one, am not. The actual goals pursued may be seen now as wrongheaded, but were not at the time, by and large.
My point is that the citizens of America have more power than Moyers implies. We just don’t care very much. Again, whether we should care is another matter. But it is not so much powerlessness that is operative here, as it is apathy.
Moyers is known for making a big deal out of stuff that no one really cares about. America is the land of the free and the home of the brave - not the land of the intelligent and the home of the thoughtful.
This video is saying the U.S. is NOT the land of the ‘free’ or the ‘brave’. That’s the point: you are not free if a secret government is making decisions for you and not the land of the ‘brave’ if the vast majority of Americans are acting like sheep by accepting it.
I disagree - the apparatus to combat that which Moyers speaks of is available. We are free to act like sheep, however. It’s what people do.
In the runup to the current war, the information that there was no evidence of WMD’s was readily available. Not many americans cared. They supported the war, anyway. Overwhelmingly.
Faust not everyone has a clear and lucid thought process based on a plethra of different historical information. Like it or not, we are the minority.
Some people watch nascar and the blue collar comedy tour and call it a day; others complain about why money won’t fall into their hands while being violent and stealing. Now, some would say they deserve to be blindly led into war; some would say they deserve to work their asses off only to give all their money and future to about 72 super wealthy people. I don’t personally hold that view
I mean, think of it this way. I sit here and reading posts from people like Imp and Aspacia thinking the exact same thing about information being readily availible. Not on WMD but why all these wars in the middle east and created and maintained for very specific needs while under the illusion that they buy into – one that stems from their basic outlook on life. Imp screams ‘liberal’ or whatever, because he knows (dangerous for philosophers) in whatever way that works for him that although there were no weapons, there is still some reason for him to support the killing of people.
And that’s what these shadowy governments do, they create that
reason for the more intelligent people like Imp who can easily be moulded due to whatever dispoition towards violence and greed that he and Aspacia share. The diachotomy continues, playing each end of the political spectrum against each other to create disinformation and confusion while the true powers simply dictate to whoever is on top how things can be coerced into effect by using whatever tactic the government in power can harness. Anger and hate for the republicans, and more subversive things for the liberals. I don’t want to say the Liberals are more peaceful because they’re not… they simply appeal to their audience a different way.
What is interesting is not than any of this is happening but that people are genuinely surprised or dismayed that it is happening.
It’s as if we have this naïve notion about human nature and about man’s inherit ‘goodness’ which is tarnished, consistently, by reality or our interpretations of it.
We blame others or the world for surprising us negatively when we should question our original concepts and find the flaws in them which led us astray.
If the world or people’s behavior surprises you then it isn’t their fault but yours for not being fully aware of what it and they are.
If life disappoints you then it is your naiveté that is to blame and not life.
If you fail consistently then it is your strategy you must adjust and not the world that must be adjusted to your expectations.
The logical thing to assume is that power attempts to preserve and enhance itself as a natural consequence of its own momentum.
Just imagine yourself in a position of power.
Would you not try to use it and keep it?
(given that you could eradicate all ideals concerning good/evil and the remnants of your moral prejudices)
The ambitious do not cease being ambitious once they’ve accomplished, as the risk taker (gambler) does not stop his risky behavior once a profit is attained – the house always wins because the very people that win or have the biggest odds of winning, from time to time, will eventually loose it all back; they wouldn’t even be there, the vast majority of them, if they could walk away with their winnings or if they could accept and cut their losses or if they could resist their nature.
Similarly the one attaining authority will not relinquish it and no rules and regulative safeguards will dissuade him from finding a way to keep authority and for a way around the rules.
Why does this surprise us?
Society is a balance of power achieved through institutional means.
It is an arrangement of relationship, mutually dependant and, often, competing with each other within agreed upon parameters, trying to exclude others from the arrangement so as to not disturb the relationships and force a rearrangement of arrangements - we would call this last thing a revolution.
So, in closing, it isn’t that those in power are trying to dupe us or control us or lead us astray using psychological tricks and misinformation that is at issue her, but what do we do about it, if we do anything at all?
In the end you must ask yourself if the present situation doesn’t suit your needs and if allowing the stupid to remain so, indefinitely, doesn’t benefit you as well.
I know that watching an American soldier talk about the morality of the war he’s fighting and how it’s all worth it to keep America “safe†and how he’s helping ‘those people’ over there and how it is all worth his sacrifices, is humorous but if his blood, sweat and tears keeps me warm this winter then who cares why he thinks he’s doing it for?
Gobbo - I hear what your saying and do not disagree, in the main. But I also think it might be better to take a guy out with a single bullet than to land the marines.
Satyr - extremely well-spoken. You could write op-eds. In fact, I wish you did.
A common hippie sentiment from the 60’s: We get the government we deserve…
Quite the lengthy attack on Imp and Aspacia. Shadow games have been played for so long its second nature. I think that those who are tricked are less stupid than those who see and still point people down the wrong path. I would say that despite what all you have said you would be dead if not for those you have just spoken against. But those you have spoken against have fought in the dirt under the guise you help protect your ungratful lives.
They have to get in the dirt and pull all this crap just to get things accomplished. Otherwise they know that all the losers will be trying to protect the enemies, just like what the liberals are doing right now.
As,
Oh it’s been going on for a while, so that makes it a good thing? And how am I pointing them down the wrong path if I can see the government for what it is?
I wouldn’t be dead if not for Imp and Aspacia. And while I truly respect all soldiers for risking their lives and while some soldiers have fought in worthwhile wars (WW1,2) the majority of the missions the US soldiers go on nowadays putting their lives in danger for no reason and I think that’s wrong. I mean read my last post instead of skimming through.
What does this even mean? What dirt? Talking in a chat room in a luxury chair? Give your head a shake. “The losers” yeah… … the liberals and those shutup-heads from the other grade 9 class. We’re not trying to protect the enemies, we’re trying to protect the innocent. Please try and realize that just because there is violence going on in the world it doesn’t mean we can just it as a foot in the door at the bank because we happen to have a bunch of guns. The muslims had nothing to do with 9/11 but even if they did it would only be to say ‘get out of our country’. Yeah it’s a shithole, so what? Africa is worse… you see us there? It’s money pure and simple… just follow it. The war on terror is a joke, you can’t bomb the world into peace it’s like fucking for virginity.

This is NOT a true democracy, and the people to blame are the people who control the people, which are those who are in control of the media and the education system.
Attack?
How many people in American are simply soulless shells which eco what they’ve been fed by the state-controlled media?
