I came across a movie today that has again justified my belief that America is headed down the wrong path. It is called “Why We Fight,” and it won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.
Fully aware that never are things as simple as they seem, I was hoping to get the opinions of other users of the board as to whether or not this military industrial complex, mentioned in another thread, is truly as great a threat as the video makes it out to be. Or if Eisenhower truly believed it to be as much as the video portrays.
If it is factual, and every American had the opportunity to know the things mentioned in the film, would they realize that America has lost its way? Would it finally scare the people enough into fighting for change? A link to the video is provided below, if you have time, watch it. It’s amazing, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The feeble minded are kept in fear. Patriotism and nationalism flow from this minds. And as long as they are kept in fear the war machine will override any other national need.
We have been an imperialistic nation since the United States conception. I’d love to see this change however the fact of the matter is people in this country don’t give a damn about anything other than sports and parties. You would need something to wake this country up on a massive scale but how long would they be awoken for? 9/11 everyone went back to sleep not long after it happened…
America has lost it’s way horribly. Even waking the people up I doubt it would do anything because people in this country are lazy :-&
Other than the completely screwed up subtitles, it was an excellent video. Frankly, that topic worries the hell outta me, because I am good n’ eligible for a draft. I suppose though if a draft were to come I would either escape or just take the prison term. No way in hell I’m gonna go fight in the Middle East for such a “cause”.
You can turn off the subtitles with the “CC” button.
I found another documentary from almost 20 years ago by Bill Moyers, demonstrating exactly why we deserve the nickname “The United States of Amnesia.” More examples from 20 years ago of the “Secret Government,” and the U.S.'s neglect of the Constitution.
