heh. ‘On the planet of the apes’ refers to the planet we now exist on. He is comparing man to apes at this point and making a reference to a great line of movies at the same time. ‘In the land of lies’ refers to society as it exists all around us, being filled with liars and cheats that only seek to wound or kill you. The last part is meant to say ‘all that they do only leads to their own demise,’ stating simply that we have become our own self-fulfilling prophecies of doom.
What I said loosely translates to: They will reconnect with nature and be reborn through that connection and will overcome our current troubles to be the great ones we have often wished to be.
See Aldous Huxley’s “Ape and Essence”. It fits the OP description. Although it was written in reaction to the assassination of Ghandi, critics claimed it was “a failure of intellectuals in the time of crises.” This was Huxley’s second dystopia. He tried to prophesy a more decent human outcome in his novel “Island”; but even there he planted the seeds of destruction.
Thank you for your response. You managed to make his words make sense - before he edited his post. I take it that James is happy with your interpretation.
