Would you like to see a show about God?

I was thinking about pitching a show to the networks about God. Maybe call it: “THE GOD SHOW”.
Kind of like a religiously incorrect show. Bill Maher would make a great host. I"m not talking about a show where you have preachers and holy men sitting around acting like they know everything, I’m talking about a show with a panel of regular people.
Maybe have a scripture historian there to answer technical and historical questions.
Every show would have someone who represents christianity, judaism, hinduism, buddism, islam, and atheism.
The idea is to talk about God and the concept of God, without any preaching going on. normal folks having a rational conversation.

I’m reminded of the 2008 presidential debate, when a kid from texas asked a question via webcam, of the candidates: “Do you believe every word of this book”, as he held up a bible. nobody wanted to answer him. The dumbass kid acted like the bible fell out of the sky from heaven. nobody in their right mind would ever say they believe every word of that book because it was created and edited by anonymous men, edited in alexandria egypt, no less.

I think a show like that would do especially well in prime time. No mr. know it all preachers, just regular folks trying to make some sense of it all.

what do you all think. Any suggestions on format?

I don’t think it’s possible to have a normal, rational conversation about “God.” I mean, is there anything normal or rational about the way humans think about “God”?

It would be pure novelty. Have you not seen Bill Maher’s movie Religulous?

It’s a great idea, but I wouldn’t suggest throwing Bill into the mix as that would absolutely derail the usefulness of the show.
Bill pretty much said everything he has to say on the subject in his own show.
All he would bring is ridicule anyway; not clarity.

You would need someone like Alton Brown is to food, but for religion.

I’d definitely like to see more philosophy/religion based shows in prime time. I think the idea of people not preaching thouhg is a bit optimistic, I mean what happens when somebody disagrees with someone? Religious discussion always gets heated.
