Firstly I’d like to say that the overall quality of submissions was very high, higher than I was expecting. All of the pieces will eventually be displayed on Symposia because I feel that they were all of a sufficiently high quality. At this stage I would therefore ask all of you to resubmit your pieces but this time submit them in the usual fashion to Symposia via: symposia.ilovephilosophy.com/submit.php
This will also give you the chance to make any alterations or improvements to your pieces that may have occured to you in the meantime. I’d also like to thank you for putting the work in and making this a real competition. I was worried with a couple of days to go before the deadline when I had only 4 entries but you came through (though a couple of you were 48 hours late) and I’m more than happy with what I read in terms of both quantity and quality.
Preamble over, the top three pieces, in reverse order, were:
3rd NoelyG, The Last Minutes
2nd Skydaemon, Carnival
1st Tabula Rasa, Righteousness and Retribution
So a big fat to those three. Once again, the other pieces were all impressive but someone had to win and these were the three. I’ll thank you all once more and leave it there. Feel free to use this thread for comments, congratulations, complaints and so on.
And to be honest, if I couldn’t win, I’m glad it was to someone who I had much respect for. Although I’m thinking that a lot of the submissions may have been from these people.
No big surprise. All you have to do is read anything that Rasa writes - Many of us try to write - he IS a writer. Congrats to the other winners too. Can’t wait to read them.
(Hey guys, did you notice that Tab’s avatar girl is saying “playin’ in my bathtub?” )
I want to thank everyone who participated in the competition. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how many great stories were entered but I guess I should have never doubted the talent here at ILP. While Tab, Noely, and Sky ended up the winners, the other entries were, in this judge’s opinion, very close to being winners. In particular, there was one piece that was 1 point shy of 3rd place and three other pieces that were in a virtual tie for fifth place (and just shy of 3rd too). As a sincere thanks for all your entries, and in hopes of getting more participation next time, I will be awarding a small cash prize to the top three winners.
1st = $100.00
2nd = $60.00
3rd = $40.00
Winners, please contact me via PM no later than April 8th, 2006 for the specifics (it will probably require you to setup a paypal account if you don’t already have one). If anyone opts to donate the money to ILP it will be done in your name or if you fail to claim and/or if you reject the prize it will be donated to ILP in your name. Thanks again to all the entries and I hope you are all encouraged to participate the next time.
Three: (And I’m serious) Go to a store and buy 50 Dollar’s worth of healthy food, and give it to the beggar in your area you think will actually eat it, rather than barter it for crack.
Four: Kiss your wife and say “Tabula loves you baby” and give yourself 5 Dollars.*
Thanks my friend,
Tab.
*Or give that 5 Dollars to a bartender, buy yourself a shot, and exclaim loudly “Give peace a chance.”
Hopefully it’ll be very soon. At the end of this week I’ve got a review planned of all my time commitments over the next couple of months (essay due in Friday etc.) so if I can find the time it’ll open in the next fortnight. I think that it’ll be a poetry comp so that I won’t be tempted to enter myself (ask Colin, I’ve never been a poet) and cheat my way to victory.
Thankyou Mr. Tabula, much obliged! Congratulations on your victory and thanks to SIATD and the team for putting this altogether. I’m really very proud…I think…I might…cry…
Seriously though, well done to all of you, here’s to the next one!
