Yellowing

Spring comes yellow in crocus, in jonquil,
In ducklings, in peeps in warming sun angle.
In buttery, golden and mellow renewal
Impersonal bounty feeds personal hope.

Very nice, Ierr. I like it.

Nice one.

Funny thing is, I’ve been reading a forum on growing weed, and when you see “yellowing” in a thread title, the answer is always, “back off the nutrients, adjust your PH then slowly build the nutrient levels back up watching for burning on the tips of the leaves”.

I almost just typed that by default.

Haha, it does sound like a disease of some sort. I thought of skin color until I read the poem.

Thanks, Anon and Smears. There is a yellowing of decay and a yellowing of new birth. I guess the choice of which one matters to us comes from how we see each. I’ve just finished a reread of Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” and wanted to affirm something that can be positive to most. Since the poem is only a day old, I look back at it with concern about the word “renewal”. Not wanting to employ the “pathetic fallacy”, i.e., the notion that Nature gives a damn about whether we live or die, maybe “recurrence” would be a better word and would not detract from the positive assumption that “impersonal bounty feeds personal hope”. I’ll appreciate ideas about my word choice.

Smiling smiley from jonquil.

There’s a slight tinge of Hopkins there. Nice.

Are you familiar w/ a song called “lemonade” which is entirely about yellow things? You might check it out on youtube.

Thanks. Will do. Now about the word “renewal”? Is it suffucient or problematic?

“Pied Beauty” is one of my favorite poems.
