zero vs infinity what are they?

0 is to infinity… in what way? Black is opposite to white, is the same true for such an abstract numerical proposition?
You cannot comprehend infinity, not even if you had a thousand years to think about it. The same is true for zero, it goes without full comprehension. Could it be instinct that makes us try to comprehend something that can never be fully understood? If you try however, you can derive meaning from your understandings. Thinking about them also brings about profound mental changes that help develop the brain. This could explain why it’s instinctual to think about them.

they’re both one thing

The instincts are derived from a part of our primitive brain…amygdala, but our desire to comprehend meaning and understanding may perhaps come from a deeper part of us, our soul/spirit.

0 is to infinity they both go on and indefinitely…but are you speaking of eternity here?

If you’re talking polr opposites, than black is to white as infinity is to negative infinity. =p If you’re talking on the scale of black absorbing every color and white reflecting, than sure. 0 is to infinity as nothing is to everything.

But, then, this is a philosophy forum. Things can’t go by the definitions we give 'em. They’re somehow already written in the sky with a whole other meaning. Just waiting for someone to develop their entire life’s revelation on the dial of a toaster.

Take 1/n, limit as n aproaches infinity is zero. Zero is the abscence of everything but everything is needed for zero.

This is a bit vague. If you mean that x needs to be ‘everything’ (infinite) for f(x) to equal nothing (0), then this is only true in the case of f(x)=1/x. Zero is also not the absence of everything, but the absence of anything (same as nothing).

However, when I read this post, something occurred to me. Everything (infinity) would be needed for nothing (0) to exist. Why? because “everything” would give “nothing” a meaning. However, because we can say that our universe is finite (something) and not infinite (everything), there is an absence of “everything” in our universe. Because there is no such thing as “everything”, we can say there is also no such thing as “nothing”. Therefore, nothing doesn’t exist.

I realize that’s not the topic of this thread. Bear with me, I’m just rambling on…

That’s a limit. Limits aren’t about what a value is; they’re about what it approaches. Even when we ask the limit of y=5 as x tends to, say 10 (or infinity), our answer of 5 is only describing what’s occuring around that point, not on it.
