why do I hold the beliefs I hold?

I have started this in the hopes of getting to it later…
I leave for work in about 20 minutes…I want to engage in
my own understanding of why I hold the beliefs I hold to…

the why question is the one that holds my interest…

I have asked everyone else why do they hold the beliefs they hold…

I shall not exempt myself from that request…

so, when I get the chance, at some point, I hope to engage
in that question…

(one must recall that I work fulltime and try to have a family life
and try to have my alone time… It is a tall order to get to all of them)

ok, we have the time to engage in the working out why I hold certain beliefs
over other beliefs?

one: we are biological creatures… we have biological needs and wants that must
be met…I must eat and sleep and keep warm and have an education and health care
and fresh drinkable water… I must to survive as you must to survive…

every single belief I hold must be worked out with my basic biological needs in mind…
a couple more biological needs are the need to procreate and the need for love…

much of everything we do as human beings are the results of these two biological needs.
and almost everything I did from 15 to 30 was a direct result of these two needs…

so much of what we do engages in our biological needs…

the next biological need is the fact that we humans need each other…
we must connect to other human beings on a basic, fundamental
level… it isn’t enough, as we have learned during this pandemic to
talk to others on the phone, but we must have physical contact with other
human beings… hence the reason bars are so full…

every single philosophical thought must take these biological factors into
consideration… we cannot engage with the question of freedom or
the meaning of life or what does it mean to be human without engaging
in these basic fundamental aspects of being human…our biological needs…

philosophy, history, economics, sociology, in fact every single humanity
class and course begins with the basic fact of our biological needs…
before there is philosophy or history or economics, we have our biological
needs

so this is the starting place of why I hold certain beliefs…
our biological needs…

my beliefs are also guided by, no, guided isn’t the right word,
bounded by certain facts which I cannot deny…

I hold that evolution is correct… we found our way here by evolution…
now one may say, but isn’t that by inclination that you hold to evolution…
the theory of evolution suits you and so you hold it to be true…

but I spent a year or two studying evolution… getting down deep into the weeds
of what evolution is and isn’t…( I also studied gravity one year and discovered
something interesting… that the universe is shaped like a wheel of cheese…
and from that one fact, one can deduce the presence of multiverses… one on top of another.
this explain some facts about gravity too…it also tells us something about space,
that space itself is made out of something because space itself bends and shifts,
to bend or shift, it must be made out of something)

anyway, I also spend 40 years searching for god…
I sought god in the obscure alleyways of buddhism and Jainism
and other religions of the east…and read hundreds of religious books
and biography and autobiographies…I have found that those who seek certainty
in life, will hold to religious beliefs…the search for certainty is the search for
religion…but it wasn’t certainty that drove me, it was uncertainty…
life is far more about uncertainty then it is about certainty…
because really, what is certain in life?

Nothing as far as I can tell…my question has been not about how to live within
certainty, but how to live with uncertainty…for decades the abyss stared me in the
face… daring me to solve the riddle of uncertainty…that abyss was uncertainty…

the central questions of existence involved uncertainty, at least for me…
that is the problem of being a past follower of Hume…the further along
Hume’s path, the more uncertainty that happens in one’s life…

so to recap, I hold to evolution, I hold to the needs of human needing to
be met, needs like food, water, shelter, education, health care and the
psychological needs of love, belonging, esteem, hope… we have both physical needs
and psychological needs…we are biological creatures that need food and
the physical contact with other human beings…we are social beings, and we
must be social as a need as we must eat and have shelter…

so those idea’s are kinda parameters for my beliefs, they bound them as it were…

walls for my beliefs as it were… with the inside of the house being my beliefs themselves…

so what is next?

the beliefs themselves…
