thinking about metaphysics....

as anyone who reads me knows, I am not a fan of metaphysics…
I don’t hold to metaphysical idea’s… I don’t believe in god or
anything outside of the physical…

but in doing my research on the metaphysical concept, this sentence came up:

“Metaphysics continues asking ‘‘why’’ where science leaves off.”

I have asked this many times, after the physical leaves off, why?
“what is the meaning of life?” seems to be a metaphysical question
as is the question of identity, who are we as is questions of ontology:
“the branch of metaphysics dealing with the the nature of being”
this apparently also questions of metaphysics…

so when I ask, “what does it mean to be human?” that too is a metaphysical
question…for it ask “why” after the science leaves off…
for we can determine what a human being is, but that doesn’t answer the
question of, the why of human existence?

so it seems no matter how far I try to run from metaphysics, there it is…
down every road in philosophy lies metaphysics… ''who are we?"
“what does it mean to be human?” “what should we believe in?”
“what should we do?” “what values should we hold?”…
for each question asks “why?” and behind every “why” lies metaphysics…

what is the point of existence? a why question…

so it seems that we cannot escape metaphysics…

Now what? which is also a why question… what lies after the physical that leads
us to ask, “Why?”.

It’s a mistake to things of metaphysics in terms of god or the divine.
Religious types tend to co-opt everything they come across. It gives their facke ideas some sort of credibility.
The thing about metaphysics is more to do with understanding the conceptualisation of the hard facts of reality.
Science is enhanced when it is possible to ask what sort of thing is gravity and what does it mean to impose a human interested concept to help us codifiy and understand what happens when things fall down.
Metaphysics is what lies at the margins of thinking.
All the best metaphysicians are atheists anyway.
Heidegger, Russell, Wittgenstein, Sartre.
If you have a belief before you start it tends to screw up and channel all your thinking to god (whatever that is).
