Why do we hide/show?

If you have noticed yourself behaving differently in different contexts, do you know why you show some parts of yourself and hide some parts of yourself in the various contexts? Have you ever been in a context that brought out thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors you never had before (didn’t/don’t know about yourself)?

Why do we hide? Why do we show?

embrace the awkward - Chris Oneth

If you can predict how people will think, feel and act,
then you can be selective about what you tell them, show them, etc.
I tried to explain this to Ethan:
You should only show people things they are ready to hear.
If they can’t handle it, it’s futile, or even dangerous for you.
Some people “can’t handle the truth”.
That’s just a sad truth itself.
So why angry up the bee’s nest?

In fct, charlatans use this selective communication of knowledge/understanding to exploit and manipulate human stupidity and human ignorance of themselves, and human need/desire, and human desperation and existential anxiety. like Abrahamism.
Priestly classes and tribes are such exploiting manipulators…using superstitions to sell a product they do not buy themselves.

Say one thing; think a second; do a third.
Strauss inspired neo-cons to use text, subtext to exploit and manipulate the masses who cannot handle the real. This weakness is easily exploited…telling others what you sense they want to hear, and then insinuating, in the subtext, what you want them to do.
Nihilism is primarily political - a tool used to control and manipulate the average mind.

Goes back to Socrates, who had spoken the truth to the youth of Athens only to return, from war, to find that they had become tyrants.

I’ll give you an example.
Many Christians do not trust anyone who does not believe ni their god, because they imagine that without god they would be terrible people - violent, abusive etc.
The only reason they are not so is because of the threat/promise of the totalitarian authoritarian one-God of Abraham.
They take themselves as an example and know that without this fear/hope they would be terrible people…so they assume that anyone who does not believe in this authoritarian delusion is capable of atrocities.
They are admitting that they are not really kind and altruistic and humble…but pretend to be so, because they are afraid of god’s wrath and are hoping for eternal life after death.

Maybe because the bees are going to go extinct if they don’t face the truth. And you love the bees.

The reason Christians try to find other Christians to bond with is because Christians know themselves and what they’re like with or without God (as a focus). The higher up (or further in) you go in insight, the lower down (or further out) you’re capable of going in the mud. We want to find someone who understands that and how to get us back out. Granted, God will not be mocked and we will all be salted with fire. But the reason we are capable of doing worse than someone that doesn’t have God as a focus is because we know grace. Don’t get comfortable. Tied to a rock at the bottom of the ocean until the fire evaporates everything? Not a good look.

What is the one commonality that binds all Christians together?

No, not Faith.

No, not God.

No, not Christ.

It’s Guilt.

We all experience dissonance between how we move in the world and how we know in our gut we should be moving. What connects Christians (even if not in name) is we keep returning to the Way. No matter if everything around us is dark. It never leaves us.

Every person (one with choice) has a little seed of the Way in them, but you have to choose to grow it. Parable of the Sower.

Are you sure this cannot be said of any religion?

I don’t limit it to Christianity. That’s why I said every person.

Another name for the Dao/Tao is the Way. It’s in every major culture in history.

Ok, just checking?
