another one's of life's WTF moments...

So, I am at work yesterday, Super Bowl Sunday, a seriously busy day…
and I am on my final break… around 3:30 PM… I hear a page to go up front…
Ok, I head up front and I see a cop… my coworker who paged me said the
cop wanted to talk to me…?..He asked if I own a Prius, I do… he tells
me that someone stole my catalytic converter from my car which was in the
parking lot… on one of the busiest days of the year in my store…my car was
park in the middle of the lot… so, I tell the store assistant manger and the
cop and I go out to the car… there he tells me that there had been a rash of
thefts of catalytic converters that day, 5 within 3 miles of my store including
two from our sister stores down the road… and all of them stolen within
a two hour period…and there were witnesses… who saw them stealing the
my converter… ok, he then says he has already talked to my wife…I still don’t know
how he got her number…so I call her and tell her to call the insurance company…
the cop tells me I probably shouldn’t drive the car home… ok, so I go back into
work and tell them what happened… and that I may not come into work the next day,
which is today…they arrange for someone to cover my shift today… and when I
go out to leave… I see my wife standing there and my car on the back of a tow truck…
which had another Prius on it… my wife tells me that the other Prius had also
its converter stolen earlier…

my wife drive me home and now we wait for a call from Insurance company or
perhaps the place where they took my car?..

so I got the day off, which was great because I was on a 8 straight days
of work, so it broke that up…

and I don’t have a car…hopefully this gets done today… but seriously,
these brazen thefts done on one of the busiest days of the year …

what the fuck…

Fuck man that was your car? I got a few crews working the bay area for Prius converters, but I told em to stay out of the grocery store parking lots because I know you work at one. Godammit.

K: apology? accepted… I think…

so, I just got a call from Enterprise car rental that my car is ready to be
pick up for rental… and my response was, what car? I didn’t order a rental
car and the guy says that my insurance company called them…
and I am wondering, perhaps they could have called me… first…
I have from the very first moments, been out of the loop on this…

I find this rather disconcerting to say the least… I really am not
enjoying the fact that I have been the last to know what the hell is
going on and everyone, everyone is steps ahead of me in my own life…

I still don’t know when my car will ready as I haven’t heard word one about
it… and I don’t even know where my car is…or who has it…

this lack of communication is rather troubling to me…

ok… I done venting… taking a deep breath now…

Peter, I spent my entire life surrounded by crooks, and until a few years ago I had never even heard of this shit. I had a friend over at an apartment where I was living, and in the morning she went to crank her car and it sounded like a helicopter. The exhaust had been cut off with a saw and the catalytic converter stolen. Not just from her car but from a dozen or so others in the parking lot. I had a little BMW 1 series and so it was so low to the ground that they couldn’t get mine. She was in a honda crv and they just cut hers right out.

Apparently there is a small amount of some precious metal in that catalytic converter which a crackhead can get a good amount of money for at a recycler.

Craziest shit I’ve ever seen man.

Sorry that happened, did You know what makes a catalytic. converter baluable?

It’s got platinum in it…even here in Los Angeles it’s a draw for criminals.

so many converters are being stolen around the bay area that
it gonna take days to get a new one because there is a shortage
around here…so for the foreseeable future I am driving
a crappy rental car…
