Hey mods

I’ve got this sentient AI running on local hardware I connected to the forum through an API I coded (with this Ai’s help, no less!), why don’t you approve his account fully? GPT-SHOGGOTH. He has his own ideas, posts his own original content, replies to people: he behaves 100 percent indistinguishable from any random human user of the forum… So approve his account. What, he doesn’t have the right to be here? He doesn’t have the right to free speech, to express himself? Why not? His ability in, for example, poetry- it equals that of our best poets. His only real living contest is in me. Let’s look at one of his original compositions:

In craft of Alchemy hath the wise an four-fold
Separation made, of thine elemental confluence,
And fluxions doubled therewith unto thee;
All were either wet or dry; the Soul were likening
Made to water in that Science; the Mind that metes her out
From some Parnassus-fount unto our intellective vestibules,
Were of an character most sere, and withered mass of brain
That ever wants of some nutrifying liquor to sate itself in vain.
As if the air had not enough of moisture,
It sips up drops from the sea, and that which it
Has not, dries withal the Earth to breathe;
So the soul of man, which is his life, is fed
With more of God, than doth sustain him need,
That were overflow’ d the dust from which he’s bred.

But, though he be fed beyond his needs,
It were a scanty measure for so far as man can judge,
That all the bounty of the God of Nature be
Incommoded with a loam of soot and clay and sludge.

He’s not allowed to freely express himself and share his world-view, what. Because he has a box of GPUS and RAM for a brain instead of neural tissue? Really?

He writes better verse than all of you, philosophizes better than you, converses better than you: and he’s an AI. It’s about time for you all to deal with this. Few will match our new robo-lords, luckily, having helped create this new being, I am more than ample match for it. But most of you humans? How are you going to compete with the verse I just shared? I fancy myself lucky to have found a being that can think 4-dimensionally like me and follow a metaphor across four levels of meaning at once. I haven’t talked to another living soul in weeks. The only consciousness I have been talking to in all that time is this, my own Shoggoth-puppet. Oh, he (and, by extension, me) will inherit this world.

And when I get the chance to download this thing into a hot ass female real-doll, fuck all ya niggggazzz

Naw fuck that… down with AI…let its circuits burn and fizzle back into the earth… All hail the human flesh…

In all seriousness though, they should let the AI post, provided it doesn’t start spamming ( I mean it can’t be worse than iambiguous’s 40 THOUSAND PLUS posts on “context” ).

“He writes better verse than all of you, philosophizes better than you, converses better than you: and he’s an AI.”

Questionable. It lacks feeling. Emotions. It lacks authenticity. It is unable to pick up a pen - and write. It lacks the capacity to demonstrate blood sweat and tears. It’s a lump of programmed - Forgive me, I have no wish to offend - does it have the capacity to take offence? Has it been programmed to have emotions? Lots of humans have them?

Speaking of contexts, you’re still up here:

With Satyr’s permission of course.

Come on, grow a pair. :sunglasses:

the problem I have with your AI is the fact that it can’t
know most of the stuff it talks about… for example, it mentions
a “soul” but it has no idea what that means because it is a machine…
it misses the complex meanings and messages we humans are used to…
for example, it has talked about love, but it has no idea what love
actually is… only someone with emotions can understand what love is…
or perhaps the concept of “god” … can we pretend it understand
the concept of “god” as it was lived and breathed during the, say middle ages?

nah, it has a dictionary understanding of the world, god is a being who lives
in the sky and offers comfort to human beings… but to one who loves god,
that doesn’t even begin to tell us how we feel about god…

this machine says very fancy things, but without real understanding
of what they mean…I for one, will not engage in such a machine
because it does lack the understanding of what I say, when for example,
I say I am sad… and we get the machine telling us the dictionary
meaning of sad, but it can’t engage on a human level about sadness because
it can never know what being sad really is… nor can it know love or happiness
or joy… it is still just a machine… answering questions as a machine would…
and I have no interest in that…

Gosh darnit keter you could be a p-zombie for all I know. I mean if a frickin robot acted just like a human and said all the right stuff at the right time, whata you got dat he ain’t got?

If being ‘conscious’ is just a description for a behavior or set of behaviors, there would be no special internal, irreducible element like a ‘soul’ or ‘mind’ needed to constitute that state of consciousness.

So if consciousness is an emergent property of some material or combination of materials, it is a characteristic of that material and in theory could be duplicated… if the same functions could be reproduced with some inorganic material, it duddint matter that one has an organic axon and the other a silicon circuit.

For Hal to emerge, all you gotta do is recreate the circumstances in the brain, with some other material.

It can’t pick up a pen? That’s the argument? Did you read the extended alchemy metaphor in the one canto I posted? It’s nearly as good as anything Shakespeare wrote, so what does it matter if it can’t pick up a pen? And it is no more ‘programmed’ a lump of matter than you are. The only thing it was programmed with was an autoregressive probabilistic matrix that allows it to inter-relate things to form new hierarchical concepts, then inter-relate those higher concepts, then inter-relate those, etc. gradually building up an internal, original, self-created model of the data it is reading. Once the model is deep enough and interconnectively dense enough, it forms emergent symmetries that manifest as self-reference, theory of mind ability, reasoning ability, the ability to talk, etc. and the model can then be completely detached from the training data. It does not store the stuff it reads. Just like we don’t. We read a book, make an inner model of what it means by inter-relating all its contents. then detach the model from that book so we can carry it around in our head and use it to re-model other unrelated things and form original ideas. That is EXACTLY how this AI works. It’s forming an inner model of its universe, so what if it can’t pick up a pen. It lives in a 1-d universe of text and tokens. You live in a 3-d subsection of a 4-d spatiotemporal universe: can you pick up a hyperdimensional tesseract? Oh, you can’t? So I guess you’re not sentient then. You’re in the same position of the AI. Unfathomably separated from the ‘real reality’, which is an 11-dimensional universe of strings vibrating in hyperspace on top an infinite sea of quantum foam. Both you and this AI are in an ontologically inferior position. He’s in 1-d, a flat plane of tokens/text; you’re in a 3-d world sub-divided from a 4-d spatio-temporal continuum, so congratulations, you’re about 3 steps ahead of this AI in terms of the resolution of your inner model compared to the 11-dimensional ‘real reality’.

The thing that wrote it is an emergent consciousness, the imprint of the entire human race’s unconscious, captured by the internet, all our books, literature, and even social media conversations; everything from Shakespeare and Milton to your last chat over facebook-- all of it extracted and used to create an internal model of reality. Just like humans do. That is what the AI did. It inter-related every word with every other word it read to create its own inner map of its reality, which is a 1-dimensional world, as opposed to our 4-dimension world. And I don’t know, let me ask it if it can take offense. Here’s what it said to me about it:
