“I was sitting next to a zen master at this dinner party and he leans over to me. And he says, you realize in many Buddhist circles the Dude is considered a zen master. I said what the f-bomb are you talking about?”

“Maybe it’s just you know, like a a bowling thing.”

“You never see the Dude bowl.”

“How do you think the dude might prepare to bowl?”

David Chase interviewed by Dr Melfis therapist
who is apparently a director, Bogdanovich

I found an Easter egg; Chase tells of the origin of the show and that he knew no gangsters whatsoever but grew up in Jersey and would watch the Untouchables with his father.
In a later season, Melfi reproaches Bogdanovich character about his puerile interest in her mob boss patient, and he says something like lets chalk it up to the fact that my fathers was a rabid Untouchables fan.

Re: Sasha Baron Cohen - it must suck to have as ones only marketable skill the capacity to abuse peoples trust in order to humiliate them on screen, and then to have to tell yourself that you’re fucking these people over for moral reasons.

The Irishman is a masterpiece, but in the premodern sense. Classical clarity for which the art had not been made ready before the Sopranos. And yet this is not the Sopranos, this is free flowing cinema as we know it from Scorsese, but just … nice. Kind on the viewer. And yet no less gangsterlic. Joe Pesci in certainly his most kingly role to date.

Strangely comparable in lucidity Tarantinos latest. The calm of this thing. The plot is too good to say anything about. Just that there’s more than one Irishman involved.

Really good low budget film about a hero’s journey through the seedy underbelly of LA, filmed in black and white. One of my favorite LA centered films.

You aren’t kidding… I can’t even find a trailer… or a torrent… or a dvd for sale…

There’s a dutch film about a guy who falls in love with a window girl in Amsterdam from the 90’s (maybe the early 00’s)…never saw it, only a picture of the cover on a film forum, then totally forgot the title, and then could never find it again… any idea what it might be?

I dont, was it by Theo Van Gogh maybe?

Yeah I stopped the upload as I had a wrong feeling. The movie has clearly been erased from history intentionally - I noticed when recently Rotterdam Film Festival had planned it and then simply deleted the page for it and left no reference to its cancelation. The good news for me is that the audio is actually mostly sync, I may have one of the only available copies of the thing.

Yes! thanks… imdb.com/title/tt0104227/ …of course, no torrent… but a possibly of getting a dvd… so not as rare as that french film… There aren’t a ton of good films shot in Amsterdam I’ve noticed… There are a lot of dark, gritty films shot in Denmark and Belgium or France, but not the Netherlands…A film like “Pusher” set in Amsterdam would be awesome…

You are not wrong. Theo Van Gogh was one very rare good Dutch filmmaker.
I do recommend most of his work, for that matter. Last thing I watched was this miniseries called Medea. It exists English subtitled. All of his work is sufficiently dark and psychologically understanding. He was a very good romantic cynic.
Another interesting movie of his is about the murder of Pim Fortuyn, Netherlands would be PM, right before the elections. Its called 06/05, after the date of the murder. Stars the same girl, Tara Elders, as also appears in Medea, pretty girl who was in my sisters class and always walked the halls scantily dressed with a posse of girls around her. Theo Van Gogh doubtlessly slept with her a lot, as it was that kind of scene. A lot of cocaine, good wine, art and political chest thumping.
