as a thought exercise, a world without government

so, go ahead. try to imagine a world without government…
what would that world look like?

well, why do we need government for this current world?

Because of the drive for the trinkets of our society…
the pursuit of wealth, power, material goods, fame…
these drives force us to have a government…

if people were engaged in seeking their possibilities, there would
be no need for government…If I was seeking to become wise or
become truly philosophical, or perhaps to seek out what is possible for
me, I and we, wouldn’t need government…

that human beings seek those trinkets is why we need government…

now the argument might be, that we are “born” or we have inherited those
drives for wealth, power, material goods, fame…in other words, we are slaves
to our passions…we seek because we cannot do anything other than that seeking…

what a sad commentary on human beings…we are forced into having governments
because we are unable to control our drives, our passions in seeking wealth, material
goods, power, fame…we have governments due to our weakness in
being able to controlling ourselves…when Gorden Gekko said, “Greed is good”
he is saying that being unable to control ourselves to this drive, this passion,
we may as well accept greed as our ruling passion… seeing as how we cannot
control it anyway…well, I do not accept that understanding, that by somehow
acceding to a passion that we cannot control is the path to becoming more human…

we have seen, all of us, at one time or another, perhaps even in ourselves,
what happens if we are controlled by a drive, a passion we cannot contain
or control…If I drink to excess because I cannot control it… see my world
go to pieces in a real hurry… or if I gamble or if I overeat at every chance
I get… nothing good comes out of these drives, these passions, so
what possible good can come out of being out of control, driven by a passion
we cannot control… nothing, but nothing good can come out of that…
so why suddenly, something good comes out of a passion like greed,
when every single other passion/drive leads us astray or into
the bushes?

the world without government can only come about when we have learned to
control our passions, our drives… when we are masters of our lives, in every
respect, then and only then can we end the tyranny of government…

thus, if you want to end the control of government over your life,
then the answer lies within you gaining control over the passions
and drives that ensnare human beings…and this in a nutshell,
is the eastern philosophies… Buddhism is basically this… gaining control
over your passions and drives that you are unable to control, like love,
hate, greed, anger, lust, and in gaining control, you regain your life…

you are in charged, your reason and logic, not some passion and drive
that you cannot control…

Is there aspects of life where we do lose control in life,
and it is ok? I too have loved to the point of losing
control and even losing myself to this passion/drive of love.
It took time to recover myself and my senses to this madness/passion
of love…

If we could, perhaps we could be like the Vulcan’s of Star Trek,
perhaps once every 7 years we could engage in ‘‘pon farr’’
and release that passion, that drive…perhaps, perhaps this
will help us to become human without the need for government…

but in either case, we should make an engagement
with the idea of existence without government…

if for no other reason, then to use as a benchmark
to where we are and where we need to be…

I think the golden opportunity for anarchism already passed us by.
The American wilderness was an opportunity for Europeans, Brits, French, Spaniards and Portuguese, to form new societies on anarchist principles, but we didn’t seize it, even tho many European poets and philosophers were dreaming of it for centuries.
For better or worse, we set up republics instead.
The powers that be are probably far too entrenched now, at least until new frontiers open up somewhere.
Anarchism as a movement peaked in the early 20th century, doesn’t look like it’s going to make a comeback anytime soon.
At this rate, we’ll be lucky to hold onto the freedoms we still have.
