The Deep State, a term used to describe the group of covert operations carried out by the U.S. and its allies against countries outside the formal military chain of command, is the U.S. military apparatus which manages the operations in many countries without the knowledge of the public, or the U.S. government. The deep state is an extension of the shadow government. At its heart the Deep State is a battle to defend US global interests and ensure that the military is controlled by the ruling elite, not by the masses. At the moment, the deep state is losing. We see it every day in the daily drip-drip of revelations.
A couple of weeks ago, the Times revealed that in 2016, the Obama administration was spying on Donald Trump’s campaign and transition team. It seems incredible, but this happened. This is a real and tangible fact. The Deep State has been losing so much ground in the last year that you have to believe the news reports if you really want to. The American public have long been aware that the CIA is involved in assassinating foreign leaders, like in the assassinations of Dr. George Tiller and Archbishop Oscar Romero. Yet, it seems that the CIA may be engaged in many more assassinations of foreign leaders and politicians, and the mainstream media is silent about it.
At its heart, the deep state is a battle to control the weapons of mass destruction. As the military industrial complex has grown in power in the last 60 years, the military has been turning over its weapons to big corporations who specialize in military engineering. These large and complicated weapons systems were originally intended to be used in wartime against countries, like Russia and China, which threatened US global interests. Now, they are being used for more mundane purposes like fighting civil wars, policing the planet and fighting what the generals refer to as the “global war on terror.”
In our daily life, we see the weapons at every street corner. The most extreme example of this phenomenon was the assassination of JFK. JFK was going to shut down the US military industrial complex by withdrawing from the Vietnam War and he was about to announce the peace. He was also going to end the space race. At the same time, JFK wanted to end US support of NATO and the CIA and he was going to start ridding the US government of many of the traitors who were sabotaging the US war effort.
The CIA didn’t like the fact that JFK was going to dismantle US global interests. The CIA also didn’t like his plans to end the space race. The CIA decided that JFK had to be assassinated and that this assassination would serve as the first in a series of false flag operations that would start a global war. On November 22, 1963, the United States was just days away from peace. Now, the US has two wars going on: the one that began in Afghanistan and Pakistan and the one that began in Syria.
We are in a situation where the CIA is trying to control the weapons of mass destruction. The CIA is also trying to control the Internet.
When I look at the “Global war on terror,” one of the more important weapons that the CIA controls is the media. The mainstream media is controlled by the CIA. They have been the ones that have been providing the news for the CIA’s war on terror.
The New York Times, for example, has been very heavily promoting the Syrian war. This is because Syria is a CIA-sponsored war for Israel. The Israeli-Lebanese terrorist organization, Hezbollah, is a CIA-sponsored terrorist organization. It is the CIA that funded the Israeli terrorist organization, the Mujahedeen. It is the CIA that has been promoting terrorism and it is the CIA that has been destroying the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians.
It is a fact that the media in the US is owned and controlled by the CIA. This is why there was such a public outcry over Edward Snowden’s leaks of classified documents. This is why there was so much outrage over the IRS’s intimidation of certain groups that were asking questions about the IRS’s role in promoting the war on terror.
The mainstream media are promoting an agenda that does not serve the public. The media are really working for a very few individuals.
In order to do that, they promote fake social justice issues, like the “global warming” issue. They promote the so-called Black Lives Matter movement.
The U.S. political system is in a new era. For decades after the Civil War, it was the progressive movement that dominated the country, and the Progressive Era set the agenda for the two decades that followed. Progressive political leaders in the United States — the Republicans in control of the White House and Congress after 1896 — sought to extend the reach of the federal government and the power of the central government into hitherto uncharted areas of private and public life. Progressive legislation, from antitrust laws to child labor laws to workmen’s compensation to progressive taxation to a new system of federally administered public schools to public park systems, and many more, was a central part of this agenda. It is to this legacy that we owe the modern progressive state, the administrative state, with its vast web of government programs, which continues to grow and expand its reach into our daily lives and activities.
As that legacy endures and as progressives attempt to maintain control of the government, an entirely new group of forces are seeking a new political order. That legacy is being challenged by a new elite — what historian Jack Goldstone refers to as the Deep State — people who have accumulated power, influence, and wealth in the federal government, the state governments, the nonprofit sector, the financial sector, the educational sector, and in the media. The Deep State is the new ruling class in the United States. It operates like a separate nation, largely unseen and unacknowledged by the population at large.
The Deep State, whose members are often called technocrats or, more accurately, bureaucratic elites, is not the bureaucratic caste that produced the administrative state in the first place. Those bureaucratic elites were the mid-twentieth century product of federal, state, and local bureaucracies that rose to prominence in the postwar years. The bureaucratic elites that now command and dominate the federal, state, and local bureaucracies of government were born after 1945, when federal and state administrations adopted a technocratic strategy that focused on bureaucratic innovation and a new managerial ethos. It is their descendants who now operate within the federal, state, and local bureaucracies, in the nonprofit sector, in the financial sector, and even in the media, that control much of our world.
As the administrative state grew, bureaucratic elites gained power, influence, and wealth, and as the Deep State gained prominence, some of those elites, especially in the media, have engaged in a kind of reverse politics, seeking to undermine traditional political parties and institutions and, ultimately, the whole political order. They have been engaged in a struggle to gain influence in the political process and to achieve political hegemony. The Deep State agenda is the creation of a permanent governing caste within the new federal-state system.
