2008 US Presidential Election Poll

Who gets your vote?

  • McCain/Palin
  • Obama/Biden
0 voters

Who gets your vote?

This is unrealistic - I’ve only got one vote. As a left-leaning middle class white person under 30 I’d surely get more than one. I’m registering a new account…

I’m not registering.

That would imply that I’m part of a system that I’ve already rejected.

I’m pretty sure all is lost for McCain. He’s not even appealing for the independent vote anymore. The attention of his campaign seems to be directed towards not losing the base…so that when he loses, he won’t lose too badly. He’s already played the voting process is faulty card himself, which means that were he to win, he would have to allow for a rechecking of the ballots when Obama, and tens of millions of Americans demand it. Obama’s got this thing in the bag.

Unfortunately it seems Obama will win.

My vote goes to Bob Barr.

obama truly is an exceptional human being – deny this and you’ve likely got something of an inferiority complex among other things

i find it difficult to deny that the man is remarkably self-aware – he has a nuanced and sophisticated understanding of himself, the world, and his place in it as it goes 'round and 'round.

and is self-awareness not that which any true philosopher recognizes as his own virtue of virtues? now more than ever, humanity may actually need something of a philosopher in power, or the state of states could implicate the world in its own demise.

indeed, it is a shame he voted for that FISA garbage… I found it quite disturbing actually. But on the other hand, I also recognize the nature of politics is what it is – that fear is a powerful instrument of control, and thus certain amount of dirt and garbage is strategically necessary to attain its goal.

in the face of the coming depression, and the possible collapse of the dominant political and economic ideology, obama is perhaps uniquely capable of preventing a global calamity of truly epic proportions. the foreseeable future will be ugly regardless of who is in power, but just how ugly is an open question.

obama as a man symbolizes a country with a future; his opponent as one quickly approaching the end of its age

**for the record, i do not align myself with any political party, especially those involved in this race, and honestly find the two party circus in washington abhorrent. my ideal is libertarian socialism, but this is merely what i see from above

Yea, Smears, how come you only gave two choices? What about third parties? Write ins?

Good job Eclipse!

I’ve already cast my absentee ballot for the Constitution party. Thanks for bringing them to my attention, Xunzian!

That’s okay, too. In my book you can still complain.

I’m not sure what that is, but I’ll check it out.

Now that colin powell has endorsed Obama, all that is left is counting the vote.

However with that said, what if the GOP actually steal enough votes, like 2000 and 2004, to win
the election? Greg palast seems to think its a done deal already and plenty of evidence that
vote stealing has already occurred in North Carolina, among other places.
I think if the GOP steal this election, 7 different kinds of hell would occur.
I for one would march on Washington and attempt to occupy the white house until
honesty in the vote count is realised.

I would call my march, “throw the bums out march”

Kropotkin

You actually like what the Constitution Party has to say?

P.T. Barnum was right . . .

I don’t agree with “any” of the current political parties in the U.S. That includes the two major parties as well as third parties. I read the platforms of the Democrats, Republicans, Libertarian and Constitutional parties. If I was to write a party platform it would sound like none of them. I also know how the system works. How many votes will the Constitution party get, you think? 1/3 of 1%? Would you feel better if I told you I voted for the Libertarian party?

Also, on that other thread you did quote some of their stuff out of context. Pros and Cons with all of them.

I voted for a Libertarian before, and also a Green. You think I should have wrote my name in this time?

As someone said above the circus is the two party system. Have at it ring master.

That’s the trick though, if you are going to vote third party (and there is nothing inherently wrong with that) you may as well vote for a party that you mostly agree with. The two-party system makes us vote for the lesser of two evils. Why keep that mentality in an expanded system?

I guess because the evil just keeps expanding into the smaller systems. Or maybe it’s the law of karma working from that mud you slung at Ron Paul on the other thread. Would you rather I voted for McCain/Palin? If no, then consider God showing forgiveness on you for that mud slinging sin. What would Confucius say about this matter?

Zigong asked Confucious, “What would you say if all the people of a village like a person?”

“That is not enough,” replied Confucious.

“What would you say if all the people in a village dislike a person?”

“That is not enough,” replied Confucius. “It is better when the good people of the village like him, and the bad people of the village dislike him.”

Is probably the most relevant. Making a bad adviser loose face isn’t a bad thing.

What is it about the Constitution Party you like? I am genuinely curious.

eenee meenee mienee moe. If every person in Ohio who voted Libertarian in 04 would have voted for Kerry, Bush would have still carried Ohio and thus been reelected anyway. So who cares if someone voted Lib.

Would it have more impact if I (one person) wrote your name in?

A person wanted to vote for Nader in 04. The Dems tried to keep him off the ballot, so he voted Republican. BACKLASH!

Who’s the bad advisor? And how did he lose face?

If a foreign court ruled that a fetus has rights as a person should the U.S. Supreme Court use that foreign court ruling to overturn U.S. precedent?

None of that actually addresses my question. If you want to ramble, be my guest. But I’d just as soon have you actually answer the question I posed.

Gee whiz, rambling on “mundane babble”! Also, I think your question was answered:

Your question:

My answer:

Xunzian repeats the question:

Would you like me to repeat the answer?

Your way to serious about this Xunzian. Who cares about some insignificant third party? You going to lose sleep because Eclipse votes for Barr the Libertarian? You should actually be glad some people vote the Constitution party. That’s votes that McCain don’t get! Would you rather I voted for McCain?

What that seems to suggest is that what you like about them is that you don’t agree with them. Now, that can’t be right. I’m not saying, “Don’t vote that way” but rather “what is attractive about the CP to you?” and since they are an imperfect fit, “what is unattractive” with the unspoken third question, “why do the elements in 1 trump the elements in 2?” I could answer those question with why I am voting for the Democratic Party as opposed to a third party that would more closely match my views.

Would I rather you voted for McCain/Palin? Of course not. But I am curious as to your thinking on this issue. Admittedly, part of it is because I do canvass and when I encounter Libertarians, I do try to convince them to vote third party (vote along with their conscious) but I find both the CP and Bob Barr so out of line with what I understand Libertarian principles to be, I don’t really know how to advocate it.

I’m not Libertarian. I’m “Independent”. I consider all views: Pat Buchannan, Nader, Libertarians, former Senator George McGovern, Jesse Ventura, etc. etc. I also moved recently and had to register again. I had no real choice on the ballot this time so just picked one. Now I’m registered, so next time “if” there’s something I really want to vote for I’m on.

That seems like a pragmatic approach I can respect, even if it isn’t one I’d endorse. Thanks.
