I imagine that everyone in the forum looks like their avatar, Phaedrus you are indeed a naked lady on a cross and drift you are… a cloaked man pointing? PoR is just a bunch of symbols sat at a computer…
Did you know that, biologically speaking, a third-generation Anglo-Saxon descendent from the USA has more in common with an Asiatic (say Chinese) than with a third-generation Anglo Saxon from the UK?
(a) Which race?
(b) Why?
(c) Does this entail the destruction of the other races?
(a)Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.
Because this is an impossible reality (yet grammatically correct sentence), it cannot be describing experience. Yet, you are able to experience to some degree, no?
(b) The unicorn was big.
Because unicorns do not exist, it also cannot be describing anything experienced. Yet, again, you are able to visualize it (and thus, experience it), eh?
There is no evil, but a lack of good. (Hey Augustine! Long time, no see!)
Niels Bohr did not write his dissertation: his mother did (he dictated it). Does this count as lazy? What about being a loser? After all, he was involved in Project Manhattan (A-Bomb), in addition to doing very great research in physics.
how is that an objection? so if a 40 yr old can have a kid with 20 yr old, does that mean age does not exist? it merely shows age, like race is not the determining factor in reproduction. but that does not mean race does not exist.
but people who belong to races are also people. so a white person and black person are all persons, with different colour. and can you please define by what is meant by ‘human’?
racially diverse beings.
if you can read the quotation, you’ll see that I am quoting another poster.

I love the taste of fresh blood, you newbies are like lambs to the slaughter.
please explain the usage of words ‘Anglo-saxon’ and ‘chinese’. if they have so much in common then why do you use distinct words? and by similarity, on what basis is that achieved? racially??
if so, did the Anglo-Saxons become Chinese or Chinese become Anglo Saxon.
a. my race
b. because my forefathers are of the same race, which they passed on to me, and I am to continue the tradition and pass it on to my children, in this way I honor and continue the racial existence of my ancestors.
c. no. this entails if done correctly, the preservation of ALL the existing races. while mixing entails their destruction, see Gobbo and TheAdler…
no
therefore, there is no plus but a double minus, well done fifth grader!
nope, maybe his mother is more efficient at writing than he is. so it is a smart choice. not lazy choice.
Race does exist in the same way that red exists. Technicaly there is no one definitive red because there are so many shades in the spectrum and one shade of red could be considered orange. But for the sake of argument there is a definitive red just as there are definitive races.
I never imgained you were a monkey Gobbo… cus ive seen your picture. Hilarious thought though.
The thing is I’ve grown up in a very multicultural city and to me people are people its all the same. Origins and cultures are just created because of geographical differences so I don’t place much importance on them.
Have you ever thought if one day through mellenia of breeding between races we will have only one race and maybe we won’t have so many race related problems in the world.
As people spread from the “cradle of civilisation” around the Tigris and Euphrates (whichever version of creation you want still puts all people starting around this area), their bodies began to adapt a bit more to the environment. The people closer to the equator had darker skin, the ones further had lighter skin.
Fast forward a number of years and now you have people speaking different languages. As time progressed, certain people in power promoted disdain (And sometimes even outright hatred) for other people groups simply because there was a difference in language, dialect, skin color, or something else fairly trivial. In many cultures, it became acceptable to enslave these others (especially if it was a result of war) and the cycle continued: disdain->hatred->enslavement. This culminated in cultures wishing for either (1) total isolation (Japan) or (2) world domination (Greece).
Thats what PoR is afraid of, thats what he wants to avoid. He thinks it will weaken individual races. I have no reason to believe this though, it could strengthen the race aswell as weaken it. Besides, a weakening of humankind is nothing I much care about. It wont effect me directly so I care little for it.
a multicultural city implies lots and lots of foreigners, you do not have A culture but a bunch of sub-countries within your country. therefore, you naturally lack racial awareness. which is strange, cuz considering the people you see, don’t they look different?

ah, so that is how a race was created. you are now proving the existence of the race for me.
enlightening.
but for something to be trivial, it must first exist!
angst-ridden
the question is not of strength or weakness, but a question of identity, it is about fighting for who we are!
yes, but it will effect your children and your children’s children to the point where they mix to the point beyond all forms of recognition to you. so what is the point of having kids, if they do not even look like you??? so why bother having your kids and go and adopt someone elses’??
No. That is just how the human body adapts. If you and a sufficient number of people in your “race” were to move to somewhere on the equator and mate only within the community you establish (i.e. so that there is no outside influence), your community will be physically indistinguishable from the “races” around you.
Or, if you’d like another angle, let’s travel to the 19th century. During this time period, the “whites” in America were prejudiced against the Irish, Italian, and German immigrants because of race. Now, though, it’d be very hard to find someone who doesn’t classify these groups as “white.” Same with Asians, as time has progressed, Asians living in America have slowly ben absorbed into the “white” category.
There’s nothing biological about it. In fact, you can take two people from amazingly different “races” and biologically examine them, the only differences you will find are things such as skin color. Of course, depending on their diet, one may be lactose intolerant, but that is not associated with “race”. Furthermore, scientists, biologists, and anthropologists since the 19th century have been unable to find a biological basis for “race.”
The existence of “race” does not mean that it was some transcendent, absolute truth or even something biologically defined. After all, we have language and art…those were other man-made creations that vary amongst cultures.
that is highly unlikely the case, from your view, then how come there are still apes? apes live in the same environment as humans, so how come they are apes and we are we???
and how do you explain insects? it is not a question of environment.
so if we color everyone on this earth green then are we of one race? race is more than skin deep.
so how does ‘race’ exist? how was it invented (if there is no perceptable differences to start off with)???
It’s not highly unlikely at all. That’s what happened when people left the “cradle of civilisation.”
Secondly, decent with modification (i.e. “evolution”) does not require the removal of the parent species. It is only the creation of a new one.
Thirdly, It is not that humans descended from apes, but rather that humans and apes have the same ancestor somewhere along the way. Just like you and i somewhere down the ancestry line have someone in common (and i wouldn’t be surprised if that someone is of a minority “race”).
Race is only skin deep.
As was mentioned earlier by someone else, the fact that there was no perceptible difference to begin with does not entail that race was a result of some biologically created difference. Chances are, you and i have different hair color and different eye color, as well as different height, weight, skin tone, accent, facial structure, and body hair. If race was something biologically determined, we’d have a lot more race than just “white”, “black”, “hispanic”, and “asian”. We’d have some race based on eye color, some on hair color.
But, of course, we don’t.
you mentioned some of the greatest fallacies of modern time. just because we were once the same does not mean we are now the same. just as if we had common ancestors before does not make us the same as now. depending on the racial awareness of the ancestors you can fall into the pit of a different race.
and I explictly replied if that is the case, then if we color everyone green, i.e igoring skin color we can still recognise the race based on facial features, so race is not ONLY skin deep as you seem to suggest.
the reason for that is because we are all individuals. however, that does not negate our racial bond with one another. there are features that all white, all black, and all asians share.
such differences are that all black people have extremely dark skin, a color that no one else on this planet possess. while the skin color for others are different. I explain this point earlier so I won’t re-explain. but that, racial differences exist, and it is quite foolish to suggest that just because we are all particulars, universals do not exist. I think you may have low IQ, for if you can’t distinguish asians from whites, then you certainly have trouble distinguishing the set tests of IQ tests.
And the differentiation would not be labelled “race”.
Wrong. i have seen edited photos that depict the same person in white skin and in black skin. The only perceivable difference is the skin color.
Not really. There’s always an exception.
Wow. Ad hom. i’m impressed.
i can distinguish different ethnic origins to a degree. For instance, i can’t tell much difference between a Filipino and a Vietnamese, but that is the result of outgroup homogeneity (people groups which one does not associate much with are harder to distinguish apart than people groups one does associate with). But, i can tell the difference between a German, a Brit, and an Irishman.
And, if we were to get someone who has either lived in an Asian country or is, in fact, of Asian descent, she’d be able to point out a Filipino from a Vietnamese with little problem. That’s something i learned during my undergraduate career while taking an upper level Social Psychology class. Didn’t you know that people with low IQ scores get college degrees and go on to graduate school for Master’s work.
