“existence is an expression of possibilities.”
“we are the effect, not the cause.”
these 2 ideas floated into my mind sometime last week and i have been unable to resolve them. any thoughts?
The philosophical thesis I’m working on goes into a very specific line of thinking regarding this subject, but I cannot divulge the information, although I would like to respond in more detail to this thought.
Cause and effect thinking are one of the many reasons that people confuse reality with illusion. The illusion is that cause and effect are at one point separated.
these 2 ideas come to me when i try to separate all my experiences from my thought process (i know its probably impossible).
the idea “existence is an expression of possibilities” comes from having no clue about why the universe exists. to my eyes life is just the mechanical representation of possibilities. viewing the universe alone and in itself one can make this conjecture without too much fuss. i know tortoise that we still do no know for sure our purpose, so we should not just guess, but i mean the idea in a less literal sense.

“existence is inevitable. being affected is inevitable, reacting is inevitable”
all we really can know about our universe is that we exist within it and we are playing out various possible roles whether we like it or not. in that sense even a comet flying through our galaxy can take on the role of “just doing what it was caused to do”
take the initial action that started the universe (whatever it may be and if the universe does have a start)
if you could know the action, then you could perhaps determine or identify the range of all possible outcomes that can occur from that one action. this is what i mean by we are merely possibility.
when i say we are an expression. that is to say that we are an effect. we are a by product.
“we are like the gears of a clock as it serves its purpose”
which leads me into the “we are the effect, not the cause”
i know i cannot nor will ever be able to prove this, but i find it interesting and it seems to lead me to alot of other interesting notions.
we are the effect in the sense that the initial deed has already been done.
whatever creates the laws of gravity and physics, whatever unknown force binds materials into this 3 dimensional world. however this universe may have come to be, we are simply the product.
these philosophical ideas are not meant to be taken as truth or in a literal sense, rather to be left open as a possibility… maybe like Descartes notions of an evil god (though not unproven)
Everything exists. Everything is possible.
Nothing does not exist. Nothing is impossible.
everything could exist, but its too late for that.
