Sorry for the site being inaccessible, we’re being bombarded by bots, and it’s using 100+% of server resources. We’re now blocking the bots, but since identifying the bots and dropping their requests uses some resources (and since I’ve probably screwed up the filtering somehow), the site may be a bit slow for a bit until the bots are convinced the site doesn’t exist anymore.
The ire of the bots is a clear sign that we’re doing something right. First they ignore you, then they DDOS you, then you win…?
Yeah, bots gonna bot. We’re still getting ~2 requests per second from one of them. Unfortunately it’s from a different IP every time, so I can’t just block it.
I’ll keep working on it. From what I can tell they’re good bots misbehaving from ignorance rather than malice.
This looks like an NSA QUANTUM attack.
This forum is one of the relatively few internet forums that respects users’ privacy rights,
so, naturally, the NSA hates it.
You wouldn’t see this sort of NSA attack upon an anti-privacy forum like
philosophynow dot org.
