A Prescription for the USA

GET MORE SLEEP.

It dawned on me while posting about how the human brain and mind works involving dreams, that the USA as an entity actually has the exact symptoms of lack of sleep. What would fix a great many of the USA’s problems is simply for Congress to go into recess much more - “get more sleep”.

Congress functions in a manner that is almost identical to how any mind functions. And when a mind is too agitated and doesn’t get enough sleep, it starts making notably bad decisions. The reason for this is that a great many subtle details in decision making is normally handled on a much lower level than what we call the “conscious level”. And the consciousness of the USA rests in its Congress.

Of course the objection would be that the USA is getting constantly pestered and thus cannot afford to sleep. But the same could be said of the average business man. There are limits as to how much business anyone can handle before they sleep. During that sleep, a great many much smaller details are being worked out so as to consolidate a more rational decision platform for the next day.

And currently the President of the USA is enjoying the status of military dictator because as long as there is a war, he is in charge of almost anything he wants. Thus to actually be able to sleep, a gestalt mandate from Congress must be registered strongly limiting what the President can do while Congress is not in session.

Without such “sleep”, consistent rational decision making isn’t possible simply because decisions are trying to be made presumptuously. Dissonance arises because lower decision making groups know that they are having no affect on the final decision. But as decisions become more considerate (by being considered more before any decisions are required), the complexity of decisions exponentially decreases.

Congress, Demand More Sleep!!!

Take a rest from making more laws.

I thought you were gonna say xanax.

Term limits being set and short would help.

I agree that we shouldn’t have guys who’ve spent their whole lives there. It’s too easy for em to perfect that corruption over a long enough period of time.

Term limits is a different issue. Having a new naive congressman(woman) every year would be a really special problem in itself. The point is that most of the huge amount of decision making that takes place both in a mind and also in a nation is done below the level of consciousness (or Congress). But if the person or nation doesn’t take a break from its wakeful, noisy state, those decision remain fragmented and filter up to the consciousness, the Senate. That in turn keeps them too busy wondering what to do about matters that could have been, and would have been resolved before they ever got to the conscious level. That is what sleep provides, “inaction while subtle thinking takes place”.

Preventing a person from being able to sleep ensures that their consciousness if left in confusion, often leading to delusion and paranoia (“The Iranians are after us”). It also leaves the conscious very susceptible to hypnosis, persuasion from unsuspected sources. The result is a group of Senators that have been convinced that they know the truth of the situation regardless of what anyone says, and must act immediately to destroy the imagined enemy - YOU, the populous threatening the system. The DHS has the same problem, similar delusions, and same cure.

Allow for some of the masses to work it out for themselves.
