I have release my novel Alpha Two for free now, download PDF, MOBI, EPUB formats. Philosophical contemplation regarding human sentience and Artificial Intelligence, and the driving force behind the quest for existence is addressed, perhaps in surprising ways not previously considered.
Blurb:-
The year is 2105. True cyberspace has begun in the form of the neural-net, where humans interface their consciousness to a virtual world. Helix Carone,
a key programmer for the company that created the neural-net is now on the run, having sold the companys’ source-code on the black-market. He’s hiding out in the LA Fire Zone,
an irradiated area now infested with tech gangs and littered with societies outcasts.
Once financially able, Helix plans to get his biometrics altered and return to ’utopian’ society, but then something throws his plans into chaos. Alpha Two, an android built by the same company
has escaped from the Lunar One research facility and is being hunted by the International Security Agency.
Helix alone knows who is responsible for the android’s sabotage. In time he will join Alpha Two’s mission, eventually discovering just how entwined the saboteur had plotted their future together…
I was hoping to post the cover image but got this error:- It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.
The image is quite small, jpg file - would it be that it’s beyond the allowed dimensions?
That’s very kind of you to say Ichthus. You are correct, the AI i used to generate that 2min video kept making a lot of cock-ups re keeping the same character face/clothing etc..also the initial fight scene was rather lame! It’s Midsi. He’s one of the guys that works for the ZSS (Zone Security System) people like Helix, our hero, subscribe to the ZSS system - the ZSS have tiny matchstick end cameras pasted throughout the Fire Zone to assist in keeping the subscibers safe. The specs that Helix wears have a green ‘vr’ path for him to stick to that the likes of Midsi have pathed out for Helix follow, anything that comes up red he should avoid, there are a lot of bad ass gang members in the Zone. He mentions the ‘Plato set’ to avoid in the small vid. Ya, that 2min vid took me about 2 days to create using various AIs. When Midsi first talks you may notice a slight English cockney accent (because that’s me!! - i used a slight voice changer over it).
RE: Who is Mittsy?—the person standing at a bar that is supposed to insert their part of the dialog before the video proceeds?)
I’m not sure what you mean? There was no bar, Midsi is in a room where the ZSS operate from (nobody knows their location(s) - the likes of gangsters such as the Plato set would kill them.
Is the AI reading from a script? … if you follow the dialogue, you’re wondering who exactly is the Midsi character, because there is no one besides them talking… unless those little sounds are code they can understand… similar to how in the Matrix they understand the code running down the screen like rain.
Ah, re the bar scene where once I get Unreal Engine VR developed to turn this into a VR movie, Midsi isnt in any bar scene in my book, but Helix in the opening chapter one (on my website) is heading to “Charlie’s bar” a ZSS protected bar that only permits ZSS members and their companions.
So, ya it will be soooo cool to literally stand inside the bar scene (whilst wearing VR headset) and watch the scene play out
You know what would be even cooler? If you could participate in it like you’re participating in a choose-your-own-ending video game.
My son plays those. With the kind of graphics you’re dealing with, I think that would be pretty freaking awesome. especially if it allowed for multiple players… maybe it goes by a vote system, or maybe each player/character has their own set of choices. …maybe a blend of both. Just like real life.
Not sure why that couldn’t just be done in real life, but whatever. Maybe the infinite respawn and ability to replay certain scenes over and over and over until you get it just right would have its own appeal.
I remember reading “choose-your-own-ending” books, but not when I was a sophomore in high school or anytime later, which is when the Goosebumps series was around. I have no idea how I remember this, but the series I was reading was Hardy Boys.
I remember really wanting to like it, because the setting of it is so close to what I like in life. But after the third paragraph of congenial goings on in elaborately described wildernesses, I put it down and went to read… can’t remember.
I don’t really remember what it was about. All I remember is liking that you could chain to different outcomes. I would backtrack and try to read all the different chains.
