I need to choose a song that relates to a philosopher. I chose “God eat God” By Marilyn Manson.
Here are the lyrics
Dear god do you want to tear your knuckles down
and hold yourself
Dear god can you climb up that tree
meat in the shape of a ‘T’
Dear god the paper says you were the King
in the black limousine
Dear John and all the King’s men
can’t put you head together again
Before the bullets
before the flies
before authorities take out my eyes
the only smiling are you dolls that I made
but you are plastic and so are your brains
Dear god the sky is as blue
as a gunshot wound
Dear god if you were alive
you know we’d kill you
The reason i did this was becuase he says that god is dead. This is where i need your help.
What philosophers are related to what his lyrics say? Im thinking of involving Nihilism. Any help would be appreciated.
On another note; what is it with the amount of people asking for homework help on this forum? What ever happened to doing a little bit of research and reading on your own? I don’t mind helping out when I can, but it’s starting to annoy and worry me that so many people can’t be bothered to do their own work.
I find it perplexing that people take classes in philosophy. It always struck me as a subversive activity. What? The institution would say to a person: “We want you to study philosophy” and even grade the person on how well they did? Weird. Next they’ll be requiring classes on how to have sadistic fantasies. Philosophy strikes me as inherently anti-social, and especially anti-establishment. How could it be a class?
Anecdotally, I once heard a story about a Philosophy class where the teacher told the students to question authority, and a kid just got up and walked out. Subsequent students who did so were punished.
I am actually taking a class in philosophy right now. If someone is truely interested in philosophy, but have no other means to explore it beyond reading books then I think that taking a class is very inspiring. Especially if his/her interpersonal relations do not find the study of philosophy interesting. Where else should a person go to learn more about the topic that they are interested in? On this forum? Well, there are a lot of "genius’"posting their misguided opinions on here. Where better to go than to a school to learn about philosophy? After all, one of the most famous philosophers (Plato) founded the entire concept of the academy (academus).
