Anyone Good with Computers?

In November I upgraded my video card on my computer from NVidia 6150 to 8600.
Ever since then I’ve been bluescreening at the rate of about 5 times a week.
Via some recent research, I’ve come to the conclusion that I probably need to update my BIOS, but I FUCKING CAN’T!!!
I’ve googled the shit out of everything and I’ve come really close to finding a solution, only for it not to work at all.

My computer model is Emachines ET 1331-02
My motherboard is ECS MCP61PM-GM

Any help?

What are you doing when it bluescreens? I’m assuming you’re using Windows (XP, Vista, 7 ?)? And why can’t you update the BIOS?

I’ve messed around with computers a bit and I can almost always figure out what’s going on sooner or later.

Do you have the latest nVidia driver?
Sometimes going back to an earlier version of a driver can help.

Do you have the recommended minimum power supply in the computer?

What’s your blue screen error message?

  1. That bios, I’m like 60% sure, cannot be flashed (to OEM)
  2. That bios, I’m 100% sure, cannot be upgraded (without clusterfucking everything)
  3. That means you would need to have them send you the actual chip, if it’s actually the bios that is the problem.
4… We don’t know for sure the bios is the problem.

So it’s not looking good, my friend. If you haven’t done the obvious stuff like Phyllo suggested, try doing that. If that fails I would try a different video card or a different computer. Don’t dump too much money into some relic when you can get a machine for a fairly decent price. Some games require a surprisingly low amount of processing power. The speed at which we’re moving is far outpacing games, that’s for sure. If you’re using the video card for picture or video editing then this isn’t even a discussion. Definitely upgrade to a quad and your saved time will pay for the machine.

If you’re on Vista you could try going to 7, also, but if you’re going to pay ~130 you could easily put that towards a machine with an indy video card.

i updated the driver last night, hoping not to have to fuck with the BIOS
