Apparent I'm a great husband, or so my wife says, but why?

I was at home today and the wife calls from
a high end jewelry store. We chit chat for a couple of moments
and then she says, “you are the best husband ever”
Now I have been married long to spot the danger signs
and that one was flashing “Danger, Will Robinson, danger”
I approached this one like I was opening a suitcase bomb,
real slow and cautiously. Me, “uhhhhh, sure hon, ummmmmm
and I got this award because…”

She says “you are the best husband”

Me, "yah, I got that one already, ummmmm,
What are you talking about?

Wife: “You are the best”

Me thinking to myself: Ok, how much did this cost me"
I am sweating bullets at this point.

Wife: “You got me the best present ever for our anniversary”

and we have contact mission control, we have contact.

Wife: your gift to me was more then generous. Thank you.
this is your best present anniversary present ever.

K: “Thank you hon, I am the best ever, aren’t I?”

meanwhile I am trying to catch my breath, I am hyperventilating
at this point. That was a couple of hours ago, at this point I still
haven’t seen here or “MY” great present. I am afraid right now,
I am very afraid.

“Living in fear” Kropotkin

Peter, I feel your pain.

I, too have faced this existential terror.

The three most frightening things any man has to face are:

  1. A problem with the cable on Super Bowl Sunday

  2. A “boys invited” baby shower.

And the one you have just faced:

  1. The Call from the Mall

Buck up, brother. We’re here for you if you need us.

We should set up a charity for people whose spouses have spent ludicrous sums on completely unnecessary items. We could call it Oxfam.

I only ever really worry when mine brings a twelve pack home to me and more then one pack of cigarettes and no groceries or anything else for the house. I know the shoe is going to fall then.

It’s even more pathetic when you’ve been together so long there simply are no lies left - and worse - you don’t even try. I’m down to “But honey, I needed it”, which is given all the credence and attention it deserves… :unamused:
