Apparently entitlements are the only spending needing reform

It’s clear that taxes on the wealthy is the excuse to then attack the bread and butter of those in poverty.

If we’re talking about spending, is feeding citizens, giving them shelter a bad thing? It’s the one clear case where the government is giving back to the people they raise revenue from. If not for something like that, what good is a government for?

If we’re talking about spending, what about muliple wars, future war investment, space exploration, aid given to dozens and dozens of other countries, not to mention the blacked out budget of classified shit. And money goes to far more random and absurd things than that.

There is so much waste that entitlements are the last thing that should be addressed.

I heard a politician say we must take from those receiving benifits in order to save the programs. In other words, we must hurt people now in order to help people later. How does that add up? Those intentions do not sound sincere.

Seriously, if money going to help people bothers you more than money going to kill people, what kind of person are you?

And if you can explain how the richest country in the world is in debt, I’ll tell you about how those two things, by definintion, are impossible together. Especially when you print the money.

[size=113]A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.

we don’t spend much on space exploration at all anymore

Going to mars with a robot is not cheap. And plans for human travel there is always being funded in one way or another. We have dirty water on planet Earth and we’re more concerned with finding water on Mars. Priorities.

If you took the money we use on space study and put it into cleaning water, you’d probably get a few hundred people water. We need space exploration for the future of humanity and persons more generally. It would be shortsighted to end space study on the pretense of cleaning water.

Yeah, but you’ll end up having dirty water on Mars.

There’s something to be announced in december (once they’ve confirmed it) that’s said to be the most important scientific discovery of the last 100 years. Wait to make a decision until we find out what it is.

Heard that, too. We’ll see.
