I was talking to a friend, a great friend.
I said I want to believe that beauty is objective.
He said beauty is deep below the surface, but can’t be described in words.
Meanwhile, in my own mind, I thought that appreciation of things
is similar to blindness and sight. Just because we can’t feel something’s
value, doesn’t mean it has no value. Ugly and beautiful have some
consensus as well. Not 100% all the same, but, there are some agreements.
Our attractions is based on DNA stuff.
We get beauty wrong at times, but we get truth wrong too.
That doesn’t mean truth is subjective, it just means that we are subjective.
Beauty isn’t merely “in the eye of the beholder”.
The attraction to beautiful people is a psycho-biological recognition of genetic health manifested in symmetry and order.
Now, everybody has their unique preferences, but underlying this subjectivity is an objectivity.
I may not personally prefer Beyoncé as an ideal beautiful woman, but there is no denying that she is attractive, that is to say,
a woman who has physical symmetry and voluptuousness.
I basically agree with your statement.
Long ago on discovery channel, tv stuff happaned,
and they said how attractive features are relative to fitness, fertility and strength.
