It is unfair and ungentlemanly to ask Meno this question for not even he knows the answer to it. @meno41, I was surprised by part of the analysis from our most recent game:
After 14. b4, the computer suggests Nxc3. Iâd rejected that because the pawn is defended by the queen, but if white captures, the followup is:
14. ⌠Nxc3
15. Qxc3 Nxd4
16. Qxd4 (!)
At this point, the computer thinks your best bet it so trade a knight for a queen. If you try to save the queen, black can regain material by capturing the bishop, and in the process prevent white from castling. And the computer says a queen for two minor pieces is a better outcome than equal material with the king stuck in the center.
It makes sense on reflection because in addition to leaving the king exposed, it neutralized the rook on h1, but I was very far from finding that move during the game.

The computer analysis, yes, I usually do that as well, and this time I didnât. We had a discussion on simulation, on artificial intelligence a while ago , but then I feel I had not sufficiently brought forth the stage of development in my mind, at least, to show the indeterminacy of the precise point at which the simulation and the prior deification of structural patterns can be absolutely set.
Not trying to be funny or clever here, only to show how to evaluate some ide that is between a purely objective and subjective point of view.
Itâs funny though, how inconsistent scoring is pertaining to the games here, vis. Actual performance. For instance, you appear to rate at around the 1500 level, whereas I do at around 1200. Funny thing is, while loosing to you the third time, I managed a win against a guy who is also in the 1500 range.(I will transpose that to here, shortly)
Nevertheless, with my third loss to you, you may want to play some other player who has shown to perform in the 1500 with more consistency.
