No, I don’t think he’ll ever get elected and some questions remain about him. I don’t believe he’ll be for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq as LP’ers have wanted (for one thing, things are going too well there, even if you haven’t heard about it or much of anything from there lately), and his anti-drug positions are pure fundy rhetoric. Still, I’d vote for him for his favoring small government and opposing the “I want my mommy” socialists.
He’s supposed to be polling about 7% which is half-way the to the 15% he’d need to get into the debates. But he has good name recognition (+/-:?) and I didn’t even know until just recently that he was even running for the LP nom. So those that of you who want smaller government could tell polsters you’re voting for Barr, even if there’s no way you actually would in November. The two party system has never sucked worse than this year.
Now, i’m not one for government. I’m as anarcho-capitalist as they come.
I’m also not one for democracy.
I’m also also not a big fan of the libertarian party. They started out strong but they’ve been numbing down their platform with a lot of un-libertarian things over the past 10 years or son.
But even if I was pro government, pro democracy, and a big fan of the libertarian party, I’m pretty sure I’d still be outraged that they nominated a blatant Interventionist like Barr. Very strange.
I said he was a fundy on drugs, but I also said he wouldn’t get elected. The point is to shake things up with support of his anti-big government message which is going to be the loudest one. If you’re not for that, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you to just keep mum around a pollster.
You’re right, I’m sorry i threw such a non-sequitur into the thread. Personally, i was half rooting for Mary Ruwart, she’s a real old school libertarian, as libertarian as they come. I still find it laughable that Mike Gravel joined the libertarian party and tried to run.
Yeah, loosing power does strange things to people, which is very likely something that can be said about Barr too to some degree. But like I said, things need to be shaken up.
Nothing is the perfect vehicle to push and not have to worry about him accidentally getting elected. The best of both worlds.— =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
