The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering a reward for information regarding a bomb discovered Sunday morning in front of the Boone Wal-Mart.
The reward is valued at $5,000.
The bomb, discovered by an employee, was found at the main entrance of the store around 5:40 a.m. and appeared to be homemade.
The Boone police department and fire department responded and determined the device was potentially dangerous.
The store camera obtained two images of the possible suspect fleeing the scene.
Employees working within the store at the time were then immediately evacuated.
The Wilkes County special-operations unit, the closest department capable of disarming the bomb, responded to the situation along with the Boone Police Department to help search the area for any other device that might have been left behind.
The bomb had apparently been ignited by a slow fuse but then misfired.
“At this point in time it’s not really certain how much damage it would have done,” said Capt. William Greene of the Boone Police Department. “It certainly did have the potential for bodily injury had anyone been in the immediate area of the device if it had detonated.”
Well that is stupid…Criminals are just getting more and more stupid everyday… its pathetic. We used to have intelligent criminals and brave ones, now we have sunk to this?? Its embarrassing…
Nah, give the kid a break. He’s a college student who’s ragging on the system. At least he tried. Boone, for being such a little town, doesn’t receive much credit for the type of environment there. Aside from Asheville, it’s one of the artsiest, anti-authoritarian influences in America.
I googled “bomb wal-mart”, and this was on the 2nd page which was a little boost to my day. The majority of the searches are threat related money schemes. They’re actually trying to expand it, but the town council insists that before they do, they help build the flower garden growing next to it. It’s still a bogus compromise considering it’s a penny out of wal-mart’s pocket, but they get their point across well and still manage to piss them off.
Echo, he is a college student, sure he tried, I will give him points for that it was brave. And he did it for a good reason, so acouple of more points… But, ummmm he is a college student and should have had more brains to not get photographed.
In Forbes 400 richest Americans list it’s number 6 falling behind #1, Microsoft, and the rest of the software companies alongside some investor and hotel owner. BUT, the thing is, it’s 5x that because each family member counts as a sharer!! So it is, in essence, the absolute filthiest rich company in America.

Sickening. When I go in, I can’t stop complaining. I get claustrophobic because there are so many people. I look around me and the shelves are all stocked so neat and orderly with the same products for the consumers to whisk by and grab; they all look like the products- all the same, all clueless, all used for the big man at the head of the market so they can go their merry ways to work the next morning for the same company. The best item from wal-mart is a free item- many, many free items.
Yea, the kids did not continue in their Father’s footsteps. Wal-mart was designed to help employees and customers. Good wages, steady jobs, low prices and mostly American made products. It was that way when I was a kid. Now forget it, its blood thirsty. Sam Walton would be disapointed. It disapoints me, I used to enjoy going to Wal-marts.
I live in an area where there is little choice for my budget. All the local grocery stores and feed stores charge an arm and a leg for supplies. I have a limited budget to feed 38 cats 14 dogs and 3 humans. I have to buy 150 to 200 pounds of feed each week for our animal kids alone. At a minimum 15 bucks per 50lb that is 60$ at least plus tax, at Walmart, it would cost me $100 at least to buy feed at a grocery store or a feed store. Human food is even more expensive. I am left with little choice. I would prefer locals but if they gouge me I cannot do it. I could drive to Hattiesburg, but then that would take almost an entire day and what I save would end up in my van’s tank, so that would be useless. If folks around here would stop putting up with the local higher prices then the locals would be forced to change things. But here in South Miss. folks stay loyal to the point of harming themselves or they just hate to change. I cannot afford that luxury.
