Bored and Lonely

Yes, because that is what the Forest Service is doing. In working to preserve, protect, and teach the public about the importance of our natural resources, we’re definitely attempting “social control”.

Of course, I’m sure the fact that he went to an Ivy League school and was a member of Skull and Bones would, to you, only prove the corruption of the Forest Service.

For forests you’ve sold over 50% of to the Queen?

Those forests? Cool.

So what you’re saying is that we’ve sold our forests to England, and so we should cease to care about them? Great point.

Yes Gobbo, you’re right. How absolutely ridiculous that anyone attempt to preserve and protect our resources, teach people how to enjoy nature responsibly, encourage the masses to skip the movies next weekend, get out of the city and enjoy nature. Fucking idiots, I can’t believe I didn’t see it before. I’ll hand in my resignation tomorrow. :unamused:

Yeah you’re fighting the good fight.

I’m not fighting any fight. I’m making smart career choices for myself. I get to make money and travel while contributing to a cause that is valuable and has long-term positive effects on the world.

Oh wait, I forgot. I’m just an American. We don’t do anything that is good for anyone.

No, you’re American: beyond suggestion.

What cause would that be? Obama’s? I know you don’t believe that.

Gobbo, did you go look at the link I posted? Until you do, please refrain from commenting on my employer.

It is absolutely fucking unreal to me that a person who claims to be SO concerned with the state of the world today would shrug off the impact of an agency put in place solely to preserve and protect natural resources. Every single day that I go to work I am contributing to something that makes a real, visible impact on the world. I don’t just sit in fucking philosophy forums online and spout my ideals at people.

Chill girl , He is a good guy he is just button pushing. Not all button pushers are crappy people , rude , mean and assholes there are some like Gobbo. He can get very annoying at times but, chill its harmless. Heck I admit I can be annoying Gobbo will tell you that much.

I just deleted this comment. It was inflammatory and unnecessary.

Damn those are the best kind., and I missed it.

 It wasn’t directed at you, Kris.

 Yea, but still darn it I missed it

Working through an existing government does not mean one is serving that government’s ends only. Or even at all.

There are ideals and values which propagate through history that are independent of the social mediums (governments, nations, peoples) in and through which they spread. Obama’s government is another symbol of the status quo, as is all modern politics a sham, but does that mean nothing of long-term good comes out of these systems or regimes? Certainly not.

If it takes some repressive sham government or regime to get people to wake up to environmental concern in a real way, then so be it. The idea utilized by these regimes for their ends of greater power and control is not in itself affected by these ignoble and secondary ends – the idea stands on its own merit, has its own ideological core that resonates truthfully with the human soul, which is what makes the idea useful to those in charge in the first place.

Old_Gobbo I think is upset because (and he is right about this, of course) so many people do not see this, and they go along with the status quo unthinkingly – and yet, they are still serving the higher ends of history and human evolution even if they do not know it. Rather, their ignorance is what allows them to serve these more noble ends, allows them to be a tool for the creation and propagation of new ideals, new values, new human meaning.

Yet, the rose is the wisest flower and has seen the most, for it abides the longest. And though in the end it is beaten down with snow, it is still mighty in its ruin, beautiful in death, and rich in failure.
