Brothers in Khmun (… pronounce it as “common”)
Like you,
I have two eyes.
I stand
on two strong feet,
grinning
and I show you
my teeth.
I stretch out my
fingers,
phalanx of five,
tools to
aid the strong troop.
Brother,
remember it!
We once
swung through trees with
our tails,
vestigial
echoes
of the diploid
twinnage.
I know you from
Thoth at
Khmun, lord of
science,
who lifted me
upon
your shoulders, head
gestalt,
nuclear bond
of blood.
We are equals
in pat-
tern and spirit.
We died
together, and
there were
gods everywhere.
That’s when we parted.
They named
me the eater
of judged
hearts, and I fed
off your
lies, and by this
we keep
each other in
check for
eternity.
