I have had numerous dogs over my 70 years, and one thing that I have noticed is that we react to the animal when it is a puppy, but it reacts to us when it is older.

An early surprise was being met at the end of the street by our dog when I arrived home from school on several occasions.

Our dogs have often reacted to distress, such as when my wife had a miscarriage, although this was the first time we noticed such an immediate result with that animal.

There are other examples, but you can see that I am not assuming so much as speaking from experience.

That a capacity takes time to develop does not necessarily mean it is learned, just as baby instincts being lost over time do not require an intentional sort of unlearning/forgetting—and cannot be regained by learning. … either the way we learn by intention… or are conditioned.

When you have lived with and loved a dog for any length of time, it becomes obvious that they do understand perfectly well that others have mental states.

Meanwhile my dog is rolling on her back gesturing with her paws and looking over at me. She is doing her best to look cute and needy. Why?
Because he knows I have finished my bowl of fruit and Greek Yoghurt and she thinks she can get me to put the bowl on the floor so she can lick it clean.
SHe has a theory of mind. She has a strategy.

Yes, Sculptor, but a futuristic novel by Keyes, Flowers of Algernon, and an equally beguiling short study-story by the physicist Dennis Gabor, point to a very well founded retroactive look at the problems inferred by the acutely intelligent analysis above.

Both are readily available on internet archives, they are not representative of the functional necessity of connections not yet readily understood, except in terms of naively realistic approaches to the ideas behind minimalism, supernormal phenomena, based on holographic basis of future events, such as cyber-intelligence.

Not really a necessary aspect of a romantic revival, instantaneously brining to mind only the glossy, embellished freezes which characterize such re-creational phenomenal deification of wistful thinking; but a necessary aspect of reinventing a meaningful existence.

She is 12 now, and a bit wobbly on her legs.
We are absolutely dreading the day. Her Brother Rusty went a year ago, and her boyfriend Paddy went last month. Many of the other dogs in the neighbouhood of her generation have now gone too. And there are many new kids on the block. Shre remains indominable and is still the Princess of the Field.

She looks like she has quite a few years more. “Princess of the Field” love that. Arthritis, hearing and eyes are the common ailments of old age, doesn’t impede their progress too much.

All my dogs are rescue dogs and 10 years and over.

except Tuppence had her since a puppy, but still a rescue.
Her first days at her new home! That was 12 years ago.

I lost two within months of each other, one 18 and the other 14.

It is heartbreaking, when you hold them as they take their last breath!
I console myself with the thought at least their 6 or 8 years with me have been happy!
