people have argued recently for “common sense”
and yet, they haven’t actually displayed any such thing…
but let us examine this idea of common sense…
Common sense… first of all implies it is common, that people
have it, that it is universal…and sense, which is a faculty
like vision or hearing… thus the idea of common sense is
a sense common to all people…
but as I have noted before, there is no value or idea or sense
that is common to all people… one might say, we have senses
like hearing or seeing that is common to all people…
and yet, that is not true… millions are born without senses
like hearing, vision or even taste…
Thus, to say that common sense comes from all people
is not true… for what concept or idea that all people have?
for example, one might say, love… everyone has the sense of “love”…
and yet, we know this not to be true, for we have and I have meet
people incapable of love, they either/or hate people or they are so
narcissistic that they are incapable of loving others… IQ45 is so
narcissistic that he is clearly incapable of love…
we are all born… but that experience is not within my ability
to speak about or know about… what I know about being born
comes from seeing others being born… I cannot know what my
own experience of being born feels like…
and I cannot ever know my own experience of dying… I will die
as you will die and we have that experience in common and yet,
we are unable to speak of it as it hasn’t happened… and we will
be unable to comment on dying because we cannot return from
that “undiscovered country” of Shakespear…
we have experiences in common, as in common sense experiences
and yet we are unable to discuss it those experiences we have
in common… love for example, I have felt it and you may have
felt it, but we don’t experience love the same way, we don’t see
love the same way, and many never experience it, how does one
explain love? the exact same way one might explain the color red
to a blind person… you can’t…or the sound of an dog if one
is deaf…to hold that we can discuss common experiences
is simply not true…thus there is no such thing as
“common sense” because there is nothing we can talk
about that is common to all of us and engages in
the senses…which is different for everyone…
Kropotkin…
