Contradiction = Meaninglessness?

I know this only requires you to look it up, but I want everyone to clarify this for a certain somebody. I say no, they are not equal. (Sorry Change_my_mind, this is probly not the kind of thread your looking for.)

Contradictions and meaninglessness, as concepts, are mutually exclusive. Trust me on this one… (lol)

So if I say, this is a contradiction, does that make it meaningless?

Do you honestly believe that meaning is contingent on whether some people call a particular thing “logical”?

Well I’ll start by saying you didn’t answer the question.

I apologize, let me rephrase (my answer): No.

Thank you, I appreciate it. Anyone else?

Logic has no bearing on meaning or purpose. Something like the English language is full of contradiction but we still use it as a tool because it serves us in our reality just like math does.

So yes or no? (I say this so the answer can’t be misread in anyway.)

Well, I don’t know about that. Logic does have a bearing on meaning or purpose; it’s just not absolute.

It’s more of a degree of accuracy is it not?

I’ll agree with you there. I used logic to determine that christianity is meaningless. (To me, that is. Not Everyone.)

what is the meaning of

I knew someone would pick on that first line the second I typed it. Lol. I mean only that something can be in complete contradiction with logic as we know it and yet still have meaning or purpose. There is no cause and effect relationship.

Oh my freaking god, I just realized why you think that these two things are the same. Just because you found a contradiction that you think is meaningless, therefor you automatically assume that all contradictions are meaningless. That is not the case ladyjane.

No.

Thank you. I should have made this a poll probly but whatever.

I agree.

Even if there is a cause-and-effect relationship between contradiction and meaninglessness, then it would necessarily be far-removed and not apparent. I see ‘meaning’ as much more powerful than ‘logic’. After all, how logical are women when they get mad? At that point, it doesn’t matter what they’re saying, it just matters what they mean.

That statement means nothing. Does that make the statement meaningless? Yes. Does that make the English language meaningless? No.

You cannot apply the specific to the general. It’s called generalizing.

Example: that ball is green. All balls are green.

Meaningless to whom? Remember, meaning is subjective.

ie it ends in meaninglessness nonsense contradiction
