Your servers are located in the UK. That means you will legally adhere to digital privacy laws established by that region.

The right to be forgotten , formally known as the right to erasure , is a key provision under the UK GDPR (Article 17). It allows individuals to request the deletion of their personal data under specific circumstances. This right is not absolute and only applies when one of the following grounds is met:

  • The personal data is no longer necessary for the original purpose it was collected for.
  • The individual withdraws consent, and there is no other legal basis for processing.

Why? Because of that one schizoid freak bot or whatever it is?

Damn Niall, don’t go.

Don’t let those fools bully you around.

Don’t leave us alone with that freakbot or whatever it is. You are also the only helpful person on here. Without you I would still be typing ‘fifteen characters’

Why quit just because a drunk schizophrenic is going on a rampage? And he keeps changing his IP address, so the mods can’t stop him from making new nicks. It’s unfair to expect the mods to be online 24/7. Eventually the guy will tire and leave.

The applicability of the UK GDPR to ILP is not conceded. In my discretion, I’ve permanently suspended your account, and removed your name and email address where they were used to identify your account.

Your posts will not be removed, per site policy. Even if the UK GDPR did apply to ILP, your posts are not ‘personal data’ as defined in Article 4(1)(1), and likely fall under various exceptions (e.g. Article 17(3)(a) and (d)). Where applicable, your posts have been edited to remove personally identifying information.

Please let me know if you are aware of any personally identifying information that I have failed to remove.

Carleas, why did I just receive this email:

This is an automated message to let you know that your email address for
I Love Philosophy has been changed. If this was done in error, please contact
a site administrator.

Your email address has been changed to:

licorice.4@fellewing.com

With the state of the security on this site, I naturally became worried about impersonation. Then I tried to log in and saw that my account was disabled. Fine. Then I sign up with a different email address (to try to find out what the hell is going on) and I find you have responded to the topic I created requesting deletion without notifying me via email. I assume that the cryptic (and worrying) email above is connected to that?

Is this all standard practice for you? I regret ever having joined this site, I have never come across anything so unprofessional from an official site, and I will warn people away from this place wherever I go.

No one has ever invoked legal threats in requesting account deactivation before, so no.

This site is no one’s profession, it’s a fucking hobby project that I operate at a loss. Sorry that the service wasn’t to your liking.
