I definitely agree with you there. That is the core issue of my general politics and that is why you will rarely hear me utter explicit attacks or complaints about modern society. I prefer to work on the solutions in closed chambers, before I come out and say what I want gone and replaced.
But my irritation with ILP mods is not part of a well developed strategy.
I don’t have a short term solution for this issue here and in fact I do not want people to stop coming to ILP. I want the mods to come to their senses. It’s not a matter of life and death, let alone of billions of lives, which philosophy is. But it’s related, since quite a bit of my current thought process was sparked in debates on ILP.
People who want to leave here can join other fora such as BTL - which is highly inaccessible (and meant to be) compared to ILP, or indeed AA, which may prove to be quite relevant. Whereas it would be dishonorable of me to want to damage ILP, I want them to feel that they’re doing damage to themselves.
I know that it wasn’t me who said it. I made the above statement because I had no idea what was being referred to in here. If one is going to make any kind of a judgment call at all, and not just follow another’s lead, one needs to know what’s being referred to.

Newbies have been perma banned if they dive straight in with personal profanities towards others, so this action was nothing new - I have unbanned the young man with a warning, so let’s hope he follows board etiquette from here on in.

It was probably the insult, which is against the rules, and it could as well have something to do with the fact that he’s the most obvious sockpuppet ever, which is against the rules. It might be that he didn’t just insult Maia, but everyone else too. I mean, click his name and click “view posts”, and read a few pages and see if you still have any questions about why he isn’t here.
If I were a mod, I would have banned him as soon as he exposed himself with that avatar. Then I would tell every single one of you to fuck off and to stop being so obtuse. If you wanna have a debate that leads to infinite digress, take it to the PHL section. With whatever more or less interaction i have with you so for here at ILP, i can understand that you take philosophy far more seriously than others. And, i appricate that too.
But, extremes never serve the purpose. They are more likey to fail than pass.
Your decision is also an extreme step and should be exercised only when all other possible options are closed but that is not the case.
Are there going to be some changes made to avoid similar problems in the future? Educating new posters about expectations?
Instructing the moderators on how to handle problems fairly?
