I think your soul is the result of ones life experiences, and hence would have the gender you have ~ regardless of what that is.
If not then the soul would not be a true representation of who you are. Yet I do think the soul is a literal translation of that, the form of ones being and not something else whatever that may be.
It probably would have been clearer had I said “How could it”?
I see the soul - IF we even have one, as being quite distinct from the body. It is a very confusing topic.
Gender pertains to our physiology/biology which is made of the material world. The soul is immaterial. If we have a soul and that soul IS eternal, it would have farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr preceded the X & Y chromosomes. Very convoluted but highly interesting topic.
The mind, to me, is ‘immaterial’ too though it functions as a result of our individual respective ‘material’ brain…consciousness.
I agree with you insofar as gender ALSO being a kind of state of mind…a psychological one, which may also be influenced and affected through our human experiences although it is more a biological imperative.
I mean, if we are going to consider something, the soul, which sets us apart from what is our “material” human animal nature, why give it a gender? Wouldn’t that reduce it and make it a part of the material world? If we have one, perhaps the soul is [n]ever-changing - it is just the brain, the mind and our experiences which appear to make it so and/or appear to make it “real”. Of course, I could be perfectly incorrect about all of this.
It all depends on exactly what you mean by “gender” and “soul”.
From my perspective and definitions, it is impossible for an entity to NOT have a soul.
If “gender” is to mean “masculine” or “feminine”, then I would say that a soul would characterize those properties in the same way as the entity’s behavior did. Note that it is an issue of behavior, not extraneous body bits.
Hi James. So, you’re not actually thinking of “soul” in terms of something immaterial and eternal…well, immaterial yes. You’re thinking of it perhaps more in terms of “spirit” or the individual essence of the human being, what defines them…maybe even the word “personality” or “character” fits here.
But “spirit” = the behavior of the individual. A part of the definition of the individual is their behavioral characteristics.
“Gender”, I usually think of in terms of masculine or feminine behavioral characteristics unless obviously intended to refer to body parts. So a soul would have gender in my world, but not necessarily strongly one way or the other. I accept neutral genders.
Well, James, putting it that way I tend to agree with you but then you are referring to “human” soul - or the kind of energy which sort of definites each of us uniquely (those of which are unique) as opposed to a transcendent eternal one. You have plenty of soul, James.
I think your kind of soul also extends from the brain and its chemicals in combination with a human’s personal experience and world perspective/attiude and a person’s ‘nature’…
But I thought Abstract was speaking of something separate from that.
The soul is the deepest core structure of the human energy system, or animal or alien energy system.
It can sometimes have 1 gender, 2, or none.
The deepest core structure of the energy system of life is consciousness and life at an elemental level.
This is the finest of nano structures or smaller.
couldn’t there techniquely be 3 genders… i imagine an alien race where you have something that impregnates the birther and then another that incubates the fertilized eggs or something…
Transmigration - doesn’t that have to do with coming back as an animal? I love all animals but aren’t we suppose to evolve to something more than our animal nature albeit for some of us, coming back as an animal, like a dolphin, a wolf…whatever…might be considered a step up.
Perhaps you need to redefine soul, Abstract. The soul which I am speaking about would probably be immutable. The vehicle which houses it would be changeable - though if there is such a thing as a soul, I tend to think of its position as “surrounding us” closely - being outside of us. But that’s just me.
i tend to think the soul is something for each of us that has always been and will be, but that changes over time growing to become something old and then renewing as if the soul itself is reborn… perhaps it achieves something like nirvanna but at some point chooses or simply starts over.
Well in that case, again - why would it have to have gender? I don’t think it does - it just might appear to because we as human beings have gender. But the soul itself would have nothing to do with the human side of us. Maybe it’s the same reason that people who believe in god give god a gender “he”. But I could be wrong.
