I lov…er, I mean hate to brag, but I’m not too humble to say…
…I just got a job at a Porsche/Audi/Land-Rover Dealership near where I live! My job, as a “Porter”, is to drive the cars that the mechanics have just fixed, and check to see that whatever was broken has now been fixed. This involves driving the cars (most of which are almost brand-new) down the famous “Woodward Avenue” (a long road known with a rich history of drag-racing and driving classic cars).
The really cool part is that most of the cars I drive are Porsches’. Porsches, as many of you know, are very, very expensive German sports cars that have top speeds in excess of 177+ MPH (and believe me, these cars really can go that fast).
Plus, I’m paid $10 an hour! This is quite incredible given that I just turned 17 in March, and have only had a license for four months. I was hired through the Service Manager, who happens to be a personal friend of my family. And, virtually all of the other porters that work there are terribly iresponsible with the cars. Because I am honestly very responsible (I do not speed or drive dangerously), the other employees have grown tom like me a lot.
…not bad for a first job, eh? Sadly though, I probably will have to quit in the fall once school resumes again.
…okay, I’m done bragging…I just had to get that out of my system!
Another tid-bit of proof that shows that in the real world it’s not what you know but who you know. It’s no wonder how big-time rappers made it to where they are now having dropped-out of high school.
yeah, I guess. But, they still were very desperate for any help they can get, so, I still might have been hired even if I didn’t know anyone who was workinging there.
Of course, at some point in history someone had to have become “great” without the help of knowing anyone in “high-places”…the chain had to start somewhere, if you catch my drift.
Sweet man, you’re so lucky. I work at an civil engineering firm, but I don’t get paid (I am also 17). Argh… 3:00 till 5 plus studying for five AP exams… no money… the agony of a senoir’s high school career. “17 - don’t drive dangerously - don’t speed…” ROFL… your advice most likely falls on deaf ears (selective hearing)… or at least for me it does (what a responsible kid, lol).
Congrats! (and have fun in college)
