Ever get that feeling?

Well i don’t know about all of you, but i think the main reason i spend alot of time considering life and existence - is because i find it so painful, and overall terribly unenjoyable.
Yes, i have a negative attitude and personality.
In truth, I want more than anything, to find a solution. There is bound to be something in life for each person… isn’t there?
I am 20, so it’s “a difficult period” of my life. So I have developed a sort of existentialist attitude mixed with a cowardly stoicism to deal with life at the minute. What sort of attitude do you take to carry on in your path in life?

You are not alone in you quest. Then again, why must there be only a single solution that is universally applicable to all of humanity?

Maybe you cannot ever discover this solution, but you must instead create it?

Attitude is a gloss. Look at your character. Who are you? You are already on a journey of becoming who you are. Everyone is who they are from birth and during their life they only become moreso. You were not born depressed and discourged, that is only temporary.

I agree with you that single solutions for all humanity is a ridiculous idea, enforcing one ideal on the different wills of seperate beings just cannot work.
But i’m afraid my wishes for an answer aren’t as noble as attempting to discover an answer for everyone, just for myself.

I have been told before that creation of one’s own point - is the point, though it still seems somehow to leave me flapping like a landed fish.
More than likely, it is just a matter of time. To let my mind develop. But impatience is one of my major downfalls.

“the seperation between man and his life, the actor and his setting, this is truely the feeling of absurdity” - to quote Camus roughly, I feel quite absurd as per his description, but i am rightly or wrongly unhappy to live as Camus suggested in the myth of sisyphus as an absurd man going about his life as if he were not absurd, and being happy to know that he is absurd within. Perhaps i missed his point on that one.

Don’t listen to X-man, he was ruined by Dunamis and he is now past the point of no return. He thinks he’s possessed by a daemon and that he must graduate through a series of Jungian archetypes before he reaches Plato’s realm of the Forms. Don’t even get me started.

Step one: accept that you are going to die and that you just might be mortal.

Step two. Apply this logic: if you are mortal, and when you die you will become nonexistent, it doesn’t matter anyway. Go sit under a fig tree and stop whining.

Step three: If you are immortal, what should you be doing right now?

Step four. Apply this logic: Since step three is possible, that is, that you might be immortal, then you should direct all your efforts into assisting in the reproduction of the human species, so that there can be more cases of step three. The “making of spirits,” I think it was Keats or Yeats, whatever his name is, who said it.

Step five: abandon all mysticisms, spiritualities, and religions. Why? Read Feuerbach, he’ll explain everything. Science is the means to achieve step four.

Step six: join me in my revolution, or die trying. Capitalism must end or this planet is doomed.

I very much like step 6.
Revolution you say? Sounds like just the ticket.
Show me the way to your recruiting office, i’ll be in khakis by tea time!

“Khakis” are not appropriate field gear. You will be issued two pairs of cargo pants, one pair black and one pair camouflage.

If you want to educate yourself in the ideologies that I am presently working with, become a member at the site I posted a link to in the “Ask Dunamis” thread. You will see it, a few posts before the picture of Che, our leader.

Who among you deserves immortality?

This is the question that the next generation of humans face. Soon we’ll be able to reproduce exact adult human beings for generation after generation, literally giving life to the same person eternally.

Who dares take the risk? is the only real question remaining…

Great question!! If we really can make the huamn organism live ‘eternally’ who will be selected?

This will be a ‘mind fuck’ for devout Christians…no death…no God…no Sin…no Heaven…no Hell…Just infinite life and infinite Universe…infinite creation…and infinite experiment…

We leave on the cusp of a dark and vast human future…we are allegedly the post-era: we have no world war (yet), what faces us, if we survive, is potentially, the end of the world, genetically created human beings and space travel and habitation.

‘The futures bright the futures orange’

It’s the theological basis for the ‘new religion’ invented in Houellebecq’s latest book. Incredibly imaginative, a real head fuck.

i reccomend Zoloft

I recommend that you consider eternal life. I’ll probably die before the technology become available but you, you must just survive long enough. Do you smoke? Start smoking. It helps you to make decisions.

Yes, it is probably best to ignore me. Although you have it complete wrong détrop. I have abandoned anything remotely Platonic. I have given up on Jung and left the field of gnosticism. I have let go of metaphysics to a degree that continues to surprise me.

(Not that I suspect you would care that much, but thanks for the opportunity to state it.)

Like it helps you to make wise decisions with better consequences, or more like it helps you to make decisions quickly?

Why would there be any difference between the two?

Wise desicisions and quick decisions. They are not strangers, but they also don’t go everywhere together.

That all depends on your perspective of how quickly time passes. But essentially I agree with you.

coldandpale (like the name by the way) I felt like that at 20. You’ll get through it.

My dad used to say we spend our whole lives trying to get back to where we were when we started. I took that to mean that if you liked ice skating at 12, you probably like it now, but you’re just too busy to ice skate. But go ice skating, and not just once, but GET INTO IT, research it, excel at it. Actively take back yourself, being active is what Xanderman meant probably, creating, designing, is active. This will come now or later, if you survive this time. The revolution is whenever you want.

When life becomes a contrived mess, and your daily patterns go against your innate needs, you can easily get into a Camus quagmire and discover some pretty sad “bugs” in the fabric of life’s universe that no one can explain away. You can’t explain away…but you can look away, like taking your hand from a hot fire that just is.

And please, keep whining. People who say stop “whining” are being unrealistic. Whining is human. Whining sounds like Whyning, Why-ning, why, why, why…it’s our song and when honest it will always be sad and pleading. Over time it could take on an armor of humor, strength, wisdom, but never lose your sadness…never stop whining.

Welcome to ILP. I joined two years ago speaking precisely of Camus’ Sisyphus and I have rolled the ball over the mountain, to the other side, I’ve danced upon it’s thundering descent like a manic circus seal.

For a start, get the hell out of Ireland. Not the most euphoric place to live.

If you want to enjoy a game of Chess, you have to follow the rules. Sure you can deviate from the original rules… but itll never be as satisfying as winning with the original rules and it just wont be as fun.
Similarly, to enjoy the game we call life, you must follow the rules. The rules of nature. They are obvious rules, the aim of the game is to survive. To survive you must: stay healthy, have fun, reproduce and fully excersise your brain. Thats where Philosophy comes in.
The rules extend much further than this, the rules ive stated are the basic rules. But there are many more, Im not fully aware of them. But they are based upon our own survivle. A few examples; socialise, create, only do what makes you happy. Dont live in the illusion that there is such thing as a selfless act. If you give to a charity, know that its because it makes you feel better. And if someone tells you to help spread mankind for good, then only acknowledge the proposal if its because you know it will make you happy.
However im a determanist and so I dont believe we have any control in our lives anyway. But, im still inclined to pretend that I can control my life. Determanism is a handy philosophy for those that are down, sure some people find it depressing that we cant control our own lives. But I look at it in a different light. What happens is going to happen, I can accept evils much easier. If you dont like the game, then dont blame the player, blame the creator. The creator is circumstance.

I agree with ET. I’ve read all his stuff.
