Fall From Greatness

Once arose a nation great,
the envy of the earth,

The people fought to shape Her fate,
inspired to prove Her worth.

The blood they shed, the tears they cried,
and spilled upon Her land,

The men who loved Her most had died,
to build a country grand.

She suffered hard and desperate times,
stumbled, tripped, and fell,

But gracefully, she rose and climbed,
and lived to tell the tale.

After thoughts of hardship, long forgot,
there came a time of peace,

And She seemed invincible,
Her reign would never cease,

Until an illness slowly spread,
a sickness known as greed,

And unknowingly She bled,
a tragedy indeed.

She served her purpose, well and true,
for all the world to see,

That hearts of greedy men undo
a people once set free.
