Fancy Keyboards

I’ve always just used whatever keyboard my computer came with. That was usually enough for me. I didn’t really know much about keyboards, didn’t know that there was a real difference.

And then I just happened to read some stuff about mechanical keyboards. Cherry MX keys specifically.

For my birthday, my wife bought me a Cherry MX Blue keyboard, from a company aptly named Cherry (that link is to a pic of the American keyboard layout, mine is UK).

I love these gifs:

Any of you guys have higher-end keyboards?
What do you guys prefer?

I use a Filco magestouch 2 tenkeyless, with blues

It’s too loud for at work, where I use an Apple keyboard with a PC. The apple one is good, but I am going to save up for another Filco with blacks.

Once you go mechanical, going back is just like… a joke.

CN should invest in a high end keyboard if he has not already. That guy types a lot, clearly.

Once you get going with the blues, it’s such a satisfying audio feedback. But then if you fuck up it makes you so mad.

I wish I had the money for a Topre.

mmmm… Topre.

I thought I wanted brown, told my wife I wanted brown. She got me blues based on what people said they liked, and…I like it quite a lot. I have a few issues with my new keyboard, but I really do like blues now.

When you say ‘apple keyboard’, is that scissor switch? My keyboard on my mac is quite quiet, and I think it’s scissor switch.

Yeah I wondered about the mechanism too. I’m not sure. It’s nice, but I find that my hands get way, way, way less tired with the mechanical ones.

I went to open my Apple one up one time, but I got a phone call from Apple telling me I had just been fined $4300.

Seriously? :open_mouth:

I have an iPad… so no keyboard necessary, but I am gonna kit it out with some necessary wi-fi hardware… which might include a keyboard :-k

I don’t really know much about keyboards, except that I type really fast and so I need mine to be extremely responsive. I don’t know if I’ve ever typed on a mechanical keyboard.

I recently bought a nice little wireless number that I’m enjoying very much, and that works up to 30 feet away from the computer. Why anyone would need that, I don’t know. I moved 15 feet away and, of course it worked perfectly, but I couldn’t see the print until I moved closer to the screen.

Get a mech.

No, not seriously. Come on. lol
