Favorite Languages Of Study

At the moment I am trying to improve my German where I really like the language.

Other languages I am starting to like studying or reading is both modern and ancient Greek. Us chronically unemployed poor folk need our hobbies.

What are some other languages that interests people here?

French… because frankly I should be so much more fluent (considering that broken-French is my mother tongue) but I’m not.

Joker, you should learn Mandarin. There’s already a lot of work available (work at home type, that would suit you) in translation, and I can only see that growing.

Ditto.

I’m only interested in improving my English as much as I can.

Ancient Greek is a cool language. I studied it for a couple years.

What’s your native language?

…reminds me of having to study Latin in primary school, but the Catholic church phased it out soon after, but we still learnt some for prayers and hymns… I’d love to be able to speak it (rather than sing it  ) now, but alas…

Trying to learn Spanish

Anyone care to share their techniques and successes in learning a new language?

Why don’t you work on improving your English, joker? You planning on moving to Germany soon?

I speak French and Italian fluently. I’ve actually started to almost dislike both. I studied both modern Greek and Spanish for two years and I’d like to pick Greek up again. I didn’t like studying Arabic.

Move there and get a boyfriend/girlfriend who speaks the local lingo.

Moving to Germany? No. I am just trying to get more in touch with my cultural roots and I like talking to people all over the world on the internet.

I am specifically learning ancient Greek because of my like of ancient Greek literature and modern Greek because of my desire to communicate with present day Greek anarchists.

Although if I could move to Europe I would…

Improve my English? It’s on my to do list. Us poor peasants are not so well refined like others… :unamused:

I go by comparing grammar and sentencing with English.

A sort of comparison analysis and then I go from there.

It can be tricky when foreign words have a variety of meanings.

:frowning: sweetie sweetie sweetie?!

I want to learn my ancestral language that the Caribs of my island spoke - apparently the males and females had different languages… due to the females being brought in from different tribes (mainly Arawaks) with diffrent languages - I just hope I can find some archived material on it.

I suppose I enjoyed learning French more than Spanish. If for no other reason, because it seems to come as more of a pleasant surprise to native French speakers that I know enough to get by.
